If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

FSX and RamDisks

A RAMDISK should give the same performance as a PCI-E SSD or maybe better due to the higher bandwidth allocated to that part of the bus and the direct route to the CPU. Definitely something worth a try for traffic and even FSX if you have enough RAM.

FSX only uses 3gb of RAM anyway, so as long as you have enough to put all your background processes and a RAM drive and still leave 3gb for FSX to run in then you shouldn't get OOM exceptions with a RAMDISK.

Looking at his specs though I was surprised he only got 25-30fps. My i7-960 @ 4ghz with 12gb RAM and a GTX580 is capable of that and more without any SSD's or fancy tricks.

Performance is definately better.

My SSD manages to read ~300 Mbytes/second, my RAM is about 30 times faster.

Performance depends on more than just hardware. The user aircraft, AI, FSX settings and sceneries play into the equation quite significantly.
