FSX and Windows 7

G'day all --

I recently purchased a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I am curious to know how FSX gets along with that operating system....

I moved from XP to W7 and found that it slightly improved my frame rates. FSX is compatible with both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

WIN 7 HOME PREMIUM 64bit

I have this version on a system that is now a year old. I found right out of the box it handled FSX with no problem. I experienced an increase in frame rate which I traded off for moving the sliders further to the right. I (knock on wood for luck) lock my frames at 26 and have my sliders all the way to the right except for water, which I like at mid 2 instead of high. it is a very rare aircraft file that drops my frames below 22 steady...I haven't suffered from stutters but rarely, and not at all
after installing a shading.dll that was available through an earlier thread. Sorry I do recall who or where it is. But it helped my FSX install tremendously. Guess that is all I can add. I am lucky to be able to use FSX at this level....(knocking on wood..yet again)

Hey Blackbird I went looking for the shader mod and I hope I can copy paste it here

This (might be) IS interesting for ATI users...
This shader mod appears to fix the performance loss in clouds present on (some) ATI powered systems.

Prior to your shader fix my GPU always stuttered in those conditions...

Replacement ShadersHLSL folder which has been updated to compile shaders using the newer Shader Model 3.0. Originally, FSX was released using OLD Shader Model 1.1 and 2.0 for backward compatibility reasons to support old hardware, however, newer video cards are designed and optimized to execute last generation DX9 shaders (SM3.0) and in some cases improve performance considerably, specially for ATI Radeon cards which are known to have problems rendering fog effects in FSX. This mod provides both an IMAGE QUALITY Enhancement, while at the same time providing much better performance.

Finally a level playing field for NVidia and ATI, eh?

This is the shader link I was talking about if your win 7 system has an ATI card this helped mine a lot. good luck with your new computer.

I personally couldnt be happier with it.. Despite the many frustrations provided by windows ( of any kind ) FSx runs beautifully and smoothly. with the 3.0 shaders installed its even better than before and even without them, you'll find a marked improvement all around..
