I'm trying to use the FSX default not because the original panels are no good, but it is just that I'm not competent enough to fly it.
Que? Honestly the system isn't really any more difficult than the default...
I couldn't begin to guess what might have gone wrong.
Turn down a bit of the "eyecandy" to reduce the load on your video card's memory...
I believe perhaps you have to check the bump textures...
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture
fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Texture
fallback.4=..\..\\Bombardier_CRJ_700\texture
This is what I meant by weird. Any idea what causes it?

Make sure that you have a texture.cfg file in every one of the ..\texture.n folders, and that it has the following entries:
Code:[fltsim] fallback.1=..\texture fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Texture fallback.4=..\..\\Bombardier_CRJ_700\texture
The correct texture.cfg file should be present, but check them anyway.
Note that some of the parts in the model depend on textures from the default "Bombardier_CRJ_700," so if you've deleted and/or modified the default aircraft you will experience problems.
Normally, "exploded parts" and/or "black a/c in the Preview window" are caused by missing and/or corrupted textures...
