FSX CPUs

It's new computer time. Which will run it faster, the fastest I7 or one of the new AMD quad core 3.33ghz ones?

I have sources saying the cheaper AMD will.

Remember, I'm not asking which one is faster, I'm asking which will run FSx better. (oh hell, ARMA II as well)

FSX is all about the cores frequency.
Take the CPU that will overclok to the highest amount of GHz.

I test AMDs and Intels at TechCorp and to date there is not an AMD made that will run FSX better than an Intel processor. However, if you have a preference for AMD the Phenom II 965 Black Edition with the ASUS Crosshair III Formula motherboard with 1600 or 1800 mhz memory is HOT! It handles FSX and all of the new games extremely well.

The best results I had with this were with the ATI XFX HD-585A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5

and Nividia EVGA 896-P3-1171-AR GeForce GTX 275 Superclocked Edition 896MB 448-bit DDR3

Warning the board does not support SLI but will support CROSSFIRE if you want SLI for Nvidia this is good alternative just a little more difficult to setup

Good luck with your build,

Well, just got a new AMD Phenom II X4 965 and it's running great! I've also overclocked it to 3.8 GHz simply by changing the multiplier in the BIOS. Make sure to get a good cooler if you're planning to overclock, though.

Without pushing voltages and ram timings its not a true OC with just changing the FSB typically...

It's still an OC, beginner's level though.

It's good that he didn't have to push the voltages despite a ~20% overclock. Wish my Q9450 was that good.

Well thats true...

Ah...you need a Q9550 or a Q9650.....:ernae: :bump:

Bjoern 4Ghz is easy to attain with Q9450 what board and memory do you have?

Well your temps are fine for air...

If its stable I would just leave it go too !

Send me one. I'll pay the shipping and you'll get my 9450 in return.

Not doable if your FSB kicks out at 410 MHz. I *have* to OC via the multi. Otherwise I'd have kept that Q9300.
(See the link in my sig for more exact specs, too lazy to list any details now.)

It should be perfectly fine up to 1.45v providing you've got good cooling :)

Yay, CPU BBQ!

It seems that if one is not interested in overclocking, then an AMD 965 would be one's best choice performance wise (other than maybe the top of the line i7)??? Or is an i7 920 not OC still the better option?

I've heard that the Intel i7 920 has marginally better performance than the AMD Phenom II 965 at stock speeds, so it's really up to you if you're stuck between those 2 CPU's.
