FSX crashing after looking at the map

Here's an odd thing which has started to happen. My FSX has taken to going to a black screen, though still with different sounds as views are cycled, or sometimes to views where only part, or even none, of the aircraft appears. I've had a cockpit canopy flying alone, and once saw the pilots flying along surrounded by the internal frame, but no wings or fuselage covering. This happens with various a/c and various airfields, and always when returning from looking at the map. Has anyone else ever had this?

Hi,
I have had a similar thing happen when I take a flight with an aircraft (usually 3rd party aircraft). If I then stop the flight and go to change the aircraft, then either the pick screen is black or I select an aircraft, load up the flight and then the aircraft isn't displaying properly (similar symptoms to yours) or the screen goes black and all I can do is press ESC and quit FSX.

Don't know what causes it either so I am not really much help.

This used to happen a lot to me particularly when painting a plane. When switching between FSX and the various paint folders and Photoshop, sometimes the screen would go black but flightsim could be heard running. Sometimes I could get the FSX screen back by switching between widowed and full screen modes. Only stopped happening when I changed my graphics card.
