After seeing we had a FSX screenshots thread but no funny storys thread i figured i'd throw the idea out there since ive got a few funny storys ranging from years back to having unfolded < 1 hour ago in the case of the Lockheed Constellation story. Different People will find different storys from the few ive got funny, some are funny to tech people, some funny to veterans of FSX who would never make such a stupid mistake, some are funny to aircraft history freaks who would have known not to do whatever it is i did in the first place.
Also for the sake of convience if this actually picks up pace i ask we title story's like:
Name of Storys
Time, Place (Virtual, If applicable, Optional), Place (as in Multiplayer Server if applicaple, Optional)
People Involved (Feel Free to change names, Optional but recommended if you want to give credit even under a alias)
Beforehand: (Anything you want to say before hand, Optional)

About 5 years ago, I got FSX when i was 11 and this happened when i was 12.

Before we get started i'd like to note im NOT the kind of person i was when this all happened anymore although i still have the computer mentioned minus its case.

Most people who know there tech already think they know how this is going to go, but its worse i guarentee it.
I got FSX around the a year after i got my Aunt's old Compaq/HP SR2020, now being i was 13 naturally i didn't know jack about computers compared to now. I could install mods, fool around with the OS and stuff without breaking the OS install but when it came to how apps and hardware worked it usually ended up with me looking like an idiot. Naturally the first thing i notice after installing FSX on this machine (2.2GHZ AMD Single Core, 2GB slow generic DDR2 RAM, GeForce 6150LE 256MB, and a 160GB 1st gen SATA HDD that hadnt been defragged once in like 1.5 years of use is that the loading times are ATROCIOUS even by FSX standards. Not sure what it defaulted me to that time but i remember 1 year later on that same machine it would default me to Medium Low, so lets assume it was that. Im not even kidding, it took 10 minutes for me to load the game. I'd like to go ahead and note this was a Windows XP SP2 machine, and i had run 1.5 years without a reinstall or even a single virus scan, combine that with the fact that at the time i was too stupid to turn down the bundle offers with installers or tell a scam installer from a real one, im sure this PC would have been the fastest known delivery method of Passwords and Credit Card numbers to hackers but i digreese, anyways when it finally did load my FPS was surprisingly good, high teens for the most part, which is more than playable for me both now and then (my first airport was Cape Giradeau Reqional since that's the closest commercial strip to me) but thats because the area was all flat terrain and few trees). I had the key reference manual thats included with the FSX: Gold box set out trying to figure out how to get an outside view, which i succeded in. Problem is the very second i did that my FPS dropped to like 75 percent due to the fact there was more stuff in the background at the angle i was and to make matters worse i found out that FSX has a intresting little habbit of EVERY SINGLE TIME i rotate from the outside view to cockpit, freezing and crashing. Plus for some reason the text when hovering over an item in the cockpit, it was blacked out as if there was a graphics artifact percisely over it
. We can already tell that this is going great can't we? Me being the idiot i was back then, i thought "Hey maybe if i crank the graphics up to max something will work differently". Ya, bad idea of course, took about 20 minutes to load, ran at like 2FPS for 3 minutes, and then crashed from low video and system memory i think. So after that i reset everything to default and started googling the crash bug, just to find out that finding results on my situation was next to impossible due to the fact that the UIANIMATIONCORE.dll bug on x64 Vista and 7 systems caused the same thing but this was all irrelevent to me since that problem didnt affect XP machines. Eventually FSX quit working all together (two seperate incidents, once fixable, one not, the one that wasnt is its own storys that ill probably add to this later.). Essentially i installed too many addons and that corrupted the Pilots log file, took me around 3 days to figure that one out even with google, since as i said, i was a tech dumbass at the time. The 2nd was a virus (I think?, never really got to the bottom of this, all though late summer 2014 i found a temporary fix by chance namely reinstalling to a different folder on a different HDD. This all started after installing a Freeware F4 Phantom from a not so trust worthy site thats no longer around. Couldnt resist since it was my favorite plane, still is actually) that caused ALL Microsoft Flight Simulator products to lock up your PC to the point of hard resets being neccesary after percisely 3 clicks in the menu. everything from CFS2 to FSX instantly got the same problem so i know that wasnt random. After that i literally didnt touch FSX til around March 2014 at which point i had literally become a walking computer encyclopedia and i was able to get it running right until that PC had a major HDD issue after i pissed off a hacker while playing a Star Wars game online (no joke, sounds stupid, but i swear to god it happened) that essentially corrupted the HDD sectors so you had to reinstall the OS and everything like once a week, i eventually got the HDD working and i still use it but only for storing things i can get back EG games. Good times.
