fsx gauges in fs9: no can do?

downloaded a nice ATR panel as part of an FSX package for Castaner's ATR 42-300; I was hoping it would port back to fs9

the panel looks great, but the darned gauges dont display, even in FSPStudio. Error=no bitmaps for this gauge.

Is this something that can be changed or am I outta luck?
 
Via G**gle I just found a dialogue between Lionheart and Fr. Bill at fsdeveloper which implies that the xml in FSX gauges makes the gauges unusable in fs9.
Is this the way it works?

Sorry if this is a dork question, but I dont have FSX.

The XML schema for FSX is completely different ( and way more complicated )
that that of FS9, thus any XML gauge written with the
FSX schema will not work in FS9.

The FS9 XML gauges will, however, work in FSX.

Compiled .gau files may or may not work in either direction.
