Hey All,
I have FSX patched to SP2.. but sometimes when I install 3rd party aircraft (both free and payware) the gauges are black and do not appear (see attached screenshot) I make sure to install the gauges into the correct folder if It is required. Can someone please help.. this is a real problem.. I don't know whether this is My OS or the copy of FSX,
Thanks,

Only thing that comes to mind would be the "cab" files that some gauges are loaded into. When you have a cab file, it doesn't get unzipped and installed into the gauges folder, it must stay zipped and placed "as-is" in the gauges folder. Also, if you have gauges that are in a named folder such as "F-101-Radar", those gauges also must remain in that folder and not pulled out and dumped into the gauges folder. The panel.cfg file is setup to locate the gauges based on the specific folder name or cab file name designated by the panel designer. If those are changed in any way, the sim can't find the gauges and you get what you see in your screenshot. Other than that, I don't see any reason why the gauges wouldn't show up.

Thats definately not it.. But thanks and thats one possible cause down.. if there is anyone particularly knowledgeable I should PM about this please tell me!

Which one are you referring to as "definitely not it"? Did you read both answers? There are very few reasons for gauges not showing up and Chuck and I just gave you the two primary reasons. Unless you've changed the basic format for aircraft location and gauge location, like those folders not being located inside FSX, then there aren't many reasons for gauges disappearing.

As for someone specifically knowledgeable. . .I think you'll get the same answers from just about everyone you ask. Have patience and let others weigh in on your problem.:salute:

I found that if you have vista and do not turn off your user account some aircraft gauges or other functions will not work with a new aircraft install.
