FSX loadiing question

Recently, I've encountered an unusual issue that I cannot resolve.

Basically, FSX runs just fine on my Win8.1 machine, with most scenery and stuff maxed out.

What I've encountered are CTDs when I attempt to load my first flight of the day. In some cases I have to load the same flight a 2nd or 3rd time, before it fully loads and I can fly. Afterwards, if I'm in and out of FSX, I have no problems. It's always with the initial flight of the day regardless of aircraft.

My current flight is with the default Cessna 172 at my local airport in a "cold and dark" state. I typically select another aircraft and accept "Fair Weather", but when the flight loads it will CTD at about 69% or 100% with the typical error message. This is regardless of the selected aircraft, simple or complex. I almost get the impression that its attempting to load too quickly and something locks up. The Windows error log indicates:

Faulting application path: C:\Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

I'm curious to know if anyone else has encountered this problem and if there might be something I'm overlooking. :dizzy:

Thanks in advance.

Well, there's no clear cut solution for this error as the source could be anything.

Two basic checks:
Video drivers up to date?
FSX is NOT installed in C:\Program Files?

Other than that, the only thing that you can try is a web search:
https://www.google.de/search?q=fsx+ntdll.dll
or
https://www.google.de/search?q=fsx+ntdll.dll+windows+8.1

If you happen to have an Account at Avsim, they've got a pretty extensive CTD guide:
