• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

FSX multiplayer?

Well, Gamespy is no more so that is a problem to begin with. Most use FSHost Client to connect in Multiplayer, but there is also an alternative to Gamespy that supposedly is better called "FSOpen"

Yes, I know, but it's fsopen complicated....:-(
Well, you have the options here as your answers:
Direct Connect (Connecting directly to another computer serving as the host via their ISP)
FSHost Client (standalone program to connect multiple players to a single server)
FSOpen

Your choice!

FSOpen is not a multiplayer connection host. It is an advertising system for FSX Multiplayer sessions.

With FSOpen running and FSX running in multiplayer FSOpen publishes the session on FSOpens website. It also has a few other neat controlls but it does not host the session FSX does that.

FSHost client is an actual server application to connect FS2002, FS2004 and FSX. The downside is it uses the SimConnect.dll for FSX to connect to the FSHost client software. The SimConnect.dll is a bottle neck which is why you get the stutters at close range.

VATSIM or IVAO are the two "live ATC" online services.
I personally use FSHost the majority of the time. All you have to do is plug in a server's IP and your user name of choice, and you're good to go!
