FSX Native Tigercat in 3.1

Wanted to try the Tigercat in a test flight for the upcoming RTWR in February. What I found was that there is a significant FPS hit. Over water (details and special effects off), weather off (no clouds, no cloud reflections, no wind, blue skies). . . .fps is running around 9.2. (when locked at 20fps). If I set it to "unlimited" it rises to 11.5. Anyone else have any experience with this?

Currently, the updated Tigercat isn't on the whitelist, nor is it eligible for the whitelist.

I understand it's being worked on in an effort to correct the current problem with the FDE. I'm moving fwd while that is ongoing.

Hey Ed, it may be the 32 bit textures that are hammering your system. I'll make you a set of DXT5, half the memory of the 32 bit. Regarding the eligibility, I'm working with Mr. Shupe on that. He has requested some data regarding the drop tanks so that the fuel management can be brought to spec. FDE is part of the ongoing work.

As I understand things as they stand now, the airplane may qualify for the event.

Drop me a PM, tell me which model and variant you want to fly and I'll send you the link to the DXT5 file set.

Tom Falley is focusing on the two -3 single seat variants, metal and blue liveries to bring the flight models into compliance.

Since the RTWR is run in real weather and is extremely demanding on the computers and video cards, DXT5 compression would be very helpful lowering texture demands of each livery by approximately 154MB.

I will experiment with that here as well and then see if there are any other impediments to performance on my system.

Thanks Gordon. . .I'm flying the F7F-3 Single seat (model.f7f-3s). Also, running that same airplane in FSX delivers 30fps (locked at 30) with everything turned on.

I just converted the metal textures to dxt5.

In testing with wx, I am getting 60FPS with lock @60. Very nice.

I have an old GTX260 card.

Almost All sliders full right, 38M mesh, self shadows, 60nm detailed clouds.
VC getting 45-55fps.
Heavy cumul RWx

I'd love to fly the Tigercat in the event myself. But we're 25 days away, and it's not publicly available. Even if the FDE was ready today .. It would be too little, too late, unfortunately.

Joseph,

I understand where you are coming from.

My opinion is the aircraft and FM is not new. It is essentially the same aircraft we have been flying for 4-5 years now made native.
The flight model will be the same one with the same performance as what we have been flying in FSX as a port over all that time.
If the performance specs are identical, then I see no reason why the executive committee would refuse it, but that is their call.
The only difference here is the visual model.

My preference at any rate would be to fly the old version as it is easier on frame rates and less system demanding.
For the race, I do not care what the aircraft looks like; performance, handling and reliability are the only focus for me.

Regardless of the RTWR eligibility, I will make a set of DXT5 skins for the entire fleet that I converted. I'll post those up here as a maintenance update.

Ed, I'll do yours first and link the download to you.

As for the complete package, I can have the rest of those skins ready by the end of the day California time....

BTW Ed, the P3D v3.1 water is sensitive to your tessellation settings. If I am shooting traps, it's turned up, but if I were to fly a distance over water at altitude, I'd go back down to "Medium" tessellation or even lower.
