FSX question

Hey all. I have a question.... I want to make a panel or window dock for the Garmin GPS296. Can someone tell me how to make it or can someone give me one? I'd really appreciate it.

It depends on the airplane. I have done it a few times. If the panel is not too complex and you have another airplane that has something close to what you want and that's not much more than a pop-up, you can probably copy the GPS section of panel.cfg into the airplane you want it in. You will probably need to change the section sequence which will change the key stroke to activate it. It is complex to describe, not too hard to do once you get used to it. Panel.cfg is in the aircraft panel folder. It's a plain text file so Notepad is all you really need to make the changes. It will take some experimenting to get exactly what you want but that's part of the fun. Of course, make a safety copy for the inevitable "Boy, I wish I hadn't done that" situations.

I hope that sparks the desire - good luck and of course ask when you have something specific in mind.

what program can I use to make a 3D-ish window mount like a suction cup mount? Does anyone have one I can use?

Perry, Probably not possible on most aircraft, especially payware. That's built into the "model" which is the file (or set of files - I don't know a whole lot about model files) that holds most of the graphical elements. The developers are justifiably very protective of those file. There are a few aircraft that have hand held GPSs on a mount as part of the aircraft they sell. The best I know of is Aerosoft's DeHaviland (sp?) Beaver. Back in the "old" fs9 days, many developers of especially GA aircraft made panel modifications to replace radio stacks and the major flight instruments easy to do. There were other developers that sold replacement avionics and a very nice panel builder application. In the FSX age, that's getting very rare. Panel design has made some major leaps and maybe even the types of aircraft developed aren't real candidates for that kind of treatment.
