FSX to P3D

I'm really enjoying P3Dv4.5 & trying all sorts of aircraft.
Most of the FSX aircraft that work in P3D have an interior.mdl, and these seem to work.
Others dont have it, but still display, then there are others that dont.

What is the difference between FSX & P3D aircraft? Some load perfectly, & others cannot be seen.

The ones that don't show will be FS9 or earlier models, P3Dv4 and above wont work with these models.
The latest version that will work with them in P3Dv3

The easiest ways to tell if they are in the correct format is to look in the model folder of the plane, if there is only one .MDL file it for FS9. If there are two .MDL's it is FSX or above.

If you right click on an MDL you can open it in notepad, it will mostly be gibberish but right at the beginning it may say MDL8MDLH, that is FS9, if it says MDLXMDLH its FSX, PV20MDLH it early P3D, PV44MDLH is P3Dv4 and v5 and will support PBR textures.

The other things to note when moving older planes over is the gauges. XML file gauges usually contained in .CAB files will work just fine but old .GAU files wont work at all and .DLL gauges will only work if they where compiles for 64bit, FSX and up to P3Dv3 are 32bit so you would need to hunt down 64bit replacements if available.

I thought as much.

Many thanks for the prompt reply.

Have a great & peaceful festive season.
