GAIST ships v.7 released; works in 2024! (kind of...)

SOH-CM-2025
GAIST ships v.7 released on Flightsim.to: https://flightsim.to/file/81663/global-ai-ship-traffic-v6 (link says v.6, but it's v.7 released).
I recommend reading the release notes about the 2024 limitations. Both Real Time Traffic as well as AI Offline work. (General ->
Online -> Data Connection -> Aircraft Traffic Type).

Using SU2 with Sea Traffic set to Ultra, I tried both types. I flew west of Vancouver, Canada over the Salish Sea (formerly Strait Of Georgia).
and then over Vancouver harbour, With Real Time Traffic, I saw no ships sailing the sea, but Vancouver harbour was chock a block full of static
ships. They were run aground, rammed into each other, and there was a huge pile of half a dozen container ships stacked on top
of each other in Vancouver's inner harbour. I may try a lesser setting than Ultra and see if that helps.

With AI Offline, the results were very similar to the same area in 2020, with a 2020 setting of maybe 40% ship density. With Realm Time, the ships
in harbour showed almost immediately. With AI Offline, it took a good 3 or 4 minutes before the ships sailing the sea started pupping in. Ultimately
with the Ultra setting, I saw over half a dozen ships sailing the Salish Sea.

I haven't tries in 2020 yet.

Anyway, just FYI for those who like seeing ships on their sim oceans.

Hi @noddy that is not artificial intelligence, but rather natural stupidity! :D

Apparently the bridge crew "missed a turn"...

The ships look great.

Asobo's handling of ship AI is abysmal.

According to the thread over on AVsim, the model matching isn't working, which is why in Real Time you're seeing piles of huge ships at docks where there
just should be a collection of smaller ships. Because of this, the GAIST developer (Henrik?) is recommending using Real Time over open water, and AI Offline
when over more enclosed busy areas, like harbors or dockyards (you can change in flight). Apparently it's not clear whether Asobo could even provide the
additional info in the real time ship location feed.

I wonder if that's why Asobo chose to use such a low LOD for default shipping...

Yeah, in my testing so far, I just see almost 0 traffic with AI offline, whereas real time shows a lot of ships, but it’s horribly distracting if you are anywhere near shore and they’re beached and on top of each other. Which is when you are, of course, generally low enough to be looking for ships…

Over on the GAIST AVSim thread, the developer has announced that he will soon release a fix for one of the most noticeable anomalies
in Real Time mode. To quote:

"I expect to release a small update over the weekend; it primarily deals with the giant container ship many of you have seen in odd places in the
online mode. It is down to missing data in the original AIS info provided from especially small leisure boats and then lack of filtering by MSFS.
However, I found a way to cheat the simulator and suppress the error as it turns out to be very systematic how it occurs."

Better and better...
