GAME REAAAAAAAAAAALLY SLOW LOADING

I believe this was addressed somewhere along time ago, but I can find a reference to it. My theaters always loaded up fairly fast, now lately ALL my theaters seem to be really , and I mean really, slow loading. I have not added anything spectacular lately, and I remove the "filelist.dats" pretty regularly but it still seems to take awhile. Any body remember the appox. cause of this? The new "Cold War" thing I am working on relly takes a long time. And I am talking about in excess of 8 minutes

Stop your anti-virus program from scanning all CFS2 theater installations. And for that matter, any other sims and games on your drives. These folders contain only safe items and there's no need for AV programs to run interference on them every time you load. Add all sims and game directories - along with their sub-folders - to the exclusion and/or trusted list of your AV program.

What i'm mainly talking about here is an optional but default feature built into all AV programs called 'on-access scanning' which executes every time you load any program. The exe and any child processes and files are examined by the AV on access. This can slow down your loading and game play tremendously. Some AV programs are better, more intelligent and quicker at this than others. But the entire process is redundant, since the AV has already scanned your downloads when you opened them for installation. Not to mention that most games and sims are installed originally from "clean" CD's. Going further, you can also save a lot of scanning time when you execute a scheduled or manual full drive scan by having the AV skip these folders.

I've used quite a few AV programs over my computing years and in every case i setup these programs to exclude my separate partition containing all games and sims. And with the number and sizes all of my installed "toys", this saves about 45 to 60 minutes of scheduled scanning time and allows my toys to load faster and run smoother when i play.
