Gaming PC help needed

Still saving up for a self-built gaming rig. Is this the best way or are there some good factory built gaming PC's at a price below $1500 ? Thanks for any help... Looking at the HP Envy 850se with some optional upgrades....any thoughts.

For $1500 I'm sure you can put together a better gaming PC than paying someone else to build one for you. You're paying for someone else's time as well as components, so I'd spend that money on better components. Building your own is not hard: many of us have done it, just do the homework first.

It sounds like you are going for a desktop or tower system. I personally prefer Desktops over Towers because I like my monitor up high and with the old CRT monitors, the extra weight helps keep the case from moving around when inserting or removing media.

If that is the case (no pun intended), then factor in the cost of a good monitor which won't be all that cheap either.
I happen to have a HP Envy Core I7 laptop. It is a pretty good machine but it does seem to have some issues with its USB ports.
I know for a fact that I cannot charge our iPad from any of the ports and they have been a bit strange with certain USB devices.
My daughter also has a HP Envy Core I7 laptop (different model) and I don't know if hers has issues like mine does.

One thing to be wary of is buying things in advance of when you actually need them. Try to buy everything within a couple weeks.
Prices for computer equipment (especially motherboards, memory, graphics cards and such) tend to change (drop) pretty quickly as the next new and wonderful thing comes along.

No matter what system you buy and put together, figure that something hotter and faster for the same price will be available within about 6 months or so, so settle for good reliable equipment from reputable manufacturers.
Test things out quickly so you can take advantage of returns or exchanges early; My last desktop system had some non functional equipment on the motherboard that I did not find out about until I tried to plug in more devices. By that time it was obviously too late to do more than just live with it.

Hope this helps.

I agree with these 2. Build your own. Use a tower as get more into it. I have buit mine for a long time and know nothing! Now I can use Oculus Rift on my set up! :)

Hardware: Intel(R) Core(TM) 17-2600 CPU 2 3.40GHz 3.70GHz. Ram 16 Gb, SSD 256 Gb + raid1Tb HDs + 2 Tb HD, NVidia GTX 970. Track IR5. Saitek X55. Main screen 46" and 2 x 27".
Software Win 7 Pro 64 bit

I built my own about a year ago, but I would be hard pressed to build this machine for the same price:

The i7-4790K is the fastest single thread processor on the market right now (great for games like CFS3): https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

The nVidia GTX 980 is a beast.

Just thought I would point it out since you're in the states. A buddy of mine just bought one because when we priced the parts to build it we couldn't do it as cheap.

Its a little light on RAM, but adding another 8GB is not much.

And you can get it with Win 7 :encouragement:

Good luck with your new machine!

Thanks Kodiak for the link. One thing i like about building yourself is customizing your rig. Really wanting to use a 1TB SSD 16 GIG DDR4 ram but the I7 CPU and the high end graphics card used in the ABS PC linked to are my top choice also. Will buy Win 7 64 bit OS now while i still can. Thanks for the help everyone. Are there any PC companies out there that allow you to customize and are reasonably priced like the one Kodiak linked to ? Suffering from sticker shock with some of the gaming rigs available.:dizzy: Living on a fixed income limits my spending so i may dream of a high end dream machine but it remains just a dream. Can't wait to do this so i can enjoy WOFF.Flaming Cliffs,ROF,SF2 or any other combat flight sim in the foreseeable future at max settings. How well does the i7 4790k perform with WOFF and other flight sims out there ?

How dose ABS pc's rank in reliability and customer service ? Don't want a pc messing up soon after i buy it. Love what you get for the price and the ABS Stalker x looks pretty good also ? Still want to buy win7 64 pro just to have it available .With all the new effects, shaders, scenery,Large formations and more to come for CFS3,(WOFF and RoF also), in the future is my my main reason for getting a better rig.Hopefully CFS3 will be around another 10 years. Still think CFS3 is the best ( in modified form) at what it is (dreaming one day of correct aircraft carriers and guided missiles though). Sorry Il-2 series fans and others .Il2-46 (the last good one) i play a lot too,(highly modified), and enjoy it also so i guess to each their own. Any other good deals on gaming pc's out there i should look at and/or websites i should check out for building you own or factory built retailers ? Thanks for any help Regards,Scott
