GASP! Germans are cheaters!

Ok, so here's what happened. Any of you who have bothered to pay any attention to my threads have probably noticed that I have been flying for the brits. Well, after my last Rick Rawlings career was cut short by some idiot in a pup who didn't realize my scout was SOLID and tried to fly through me, I figured I would give herr East-of-the-fronters a try. So I joined JG 2 and took off with my Albatross DI. On my first flight I went after a pair of N11's. Since there were two of them and they were more manueverable, I was having a bit of a tough go of it, but with my nice engine I was able to keep outside of them while they lost altitude in their turns. Eventually we got to the deck and they had run for it. At that point, it was just a matter of a couple of long bursts and they were down. No biggie.

My second flight I shot down a balloon which was not confirmed. No biggie, balloons don't move so they shouldn't count.

Third flight was a front patrol and we were attacked by 6 N11's escorting some Quirks. (Or RE8's, whatever they are in picture 1 below.) So as the N11's dived in attack, I climbed. With my engine, none of them could follow me. I literally climbed away from the scouts and went after the two seaters.

Since none of the two seaters had a rear gun, they really couldn't do much besides watch me idle up behind them and proceed to swiss-cheese all five (5!) of them, one at a time. Now in the month and a half I've been playing the game, I have NEVER seen what is in picture 2 below! (I've seen screenshots of it, of course, but it has never happened in my game)

After downing the two seaters, I headed for home (my flight was long gone) and as I approached, I noticed some Sopwith Strutters having a go at my aerodrome. So I dropped in behind one and let him have it! Down in flames! (He killed my engine, but as I was at the aerodrome anyway, I was able to land just off the runway.

That was six planes in 1 mission and I still had more ammo LEFT than I would have STARTED with in my Nieuport!

Now just in case you think the 2 seater crew bailed because I shot them up so close, on the very next flight I attacked another Nieuport and the results are below in picture 3.

So for those of you who have been struggling for King George to bring down one sad little Albatross with your pittance of Lewis gun ammo, I'd advise you to join the Germans, you will certainly feel like you are cheating :caked:

What say you Olham, more than just national pride in the choice of your aircraft? :applause:

So far I have been regularly getting 6 kills per flight fighting for the Britts in a Sopwith Camel returning home with around 300 rounds left, so perhaps Winding man did not make it too one-sided.

Having said that I do prefer flying those Fokkers:jump:

Cheers,
Speedski

Ahhhhh! I never live long enough to get to the Camel. Maybe I'll have to start a late war career!

It appears that in Picture 2, you actually attacked a Three-seater.

He he he... that's alright. I don't live long either, I start late in the war when the action is furious. I fly too recklessly, I may settle down and get more realistic kill ratios and live longer but for now I am having too much fun.
How irresponsible !

Yeah, apparently the pilot is part of the model. If you look closely at the burning Nieuport, you can see the pilot in there too, just like all the planes on the field by the hangars have pilots in them. It does look a bit like there was a stow-away who popped up and said: "Ah, cheerio! Thanks for the ride chaps, but this is where I get off!" :friday:

wow, i really thought the brass frowned upon wingwalking while in combat.

Wingwalking? Oh! I thought he was being abducted by aliens!!

Either that, or it's the Rapture and he was a veddy, veddy good boy!:rapture:
Wow, I never thought I would have a legitimate use for that emoticon...

Rick: What say you Olham, more than just national pride in the choice of your aircraft?

Off course it is more than just national pride - it's also pride about technically advanced fighters. And the choice of a succeeding weapon. I never said anything else - since early on I'm trying to convince everyone, to try a German campaign.
On Allied side, you have only three equal opponant planes: the SPAD, the Camel, and a bit less, the S.E.5a (with it's wing mounted gun, shooting isn't as good as in the others, but very good plane).
On German side, there are 3 Albatros versions, the Fokker Dr.1, and the Fokker D VII - all of them deadly weapons.
I didn't even choose the easiest killer plane - that would be the D VII. If you fly that plane right, no one can get you - but you can kill all of them.
I chose the Albatros, cause firstly I like, how she looks: just beautiful.
And she is a solid plane - stray hits from further away don't do her much harm, and you have to give her well aimed close bursts to destroy her.

Rick: I never live long enough to get to the Camel. Maybe I'll have to start a late war career!

Rick, it's much fun to have several pilots, for the different phases and planes. On British side, I would have two at least - one for the S.E.5a and one for the Camel. Try those, in the earliest possible time/Squadron, when they were most superior.
I have 4 right now: 1 Halberstadt D II (1916), 1 Albatros D II (Jasta 2, 1916), 1 Albatros D III (Jasta 11, 1917), 1 Albatros D Va (Jasta 15, 1918).

Only later, I'll try the Dr.1 and the D VII, but it doesn't attract me much yet, having so superior planes. So, no, Rick, Germans aren't cheating. They just built fighters, that could carry their ammo (Mmuahahahaaa!!!1).

Wait until later in the war. I'm flying for Jasta 21 in the summer of 17 and it's getting tough out there, almost always outnumbered 2:1, even 3 and 4:1 by SPADs and N17's. It's fight when you can, otherwise, run for your life. The Crumpets are no slouches, either, they know how to shoot and have very good aim. Last night, I had a SPAD on my tail, can't shake him. I'm all shot up heading for the ground, was able to turn enough to head for friendly lines. Too much damage to do any evasive moves. Gladly, he didn't fire much more, but he was only 50' behind riding me down. As I landed, he flew overhead, right out in front of me. I gave the old girl all the throttle she had left, pulled the nose up and was able to get a burst into him before the engine quit and she settled to earth for good. Thankfully, I survived, made my side of the front. Mission was over so I don't know if my burst finished him, but I'm sure it woke him up. It's getting tougher out there all the time, enjoy the early victories, you'll pay for them later.

Its a pity for "dat jairman" in the screenshot that ejector seats were invented before parachutes. :wiggle:

(dat jairman = Teesside or Scouse dialect meaning "That nice German chappie".)

Yes, he looks like an Olympic Freestyle Diving champion!
(someone should tell him he should go down instead of up!)

For the believers of the man upstairs (myself included) it could be his soul, since his body is obviously still in the cockpit. Or his ghost, left to wander the skies Over Flanders Fields for eternity!

CJ

Finally, a screenshot of the soul, thanks to the great coder in the sky, proof of an afterlife for all my dead pilots; I can sleep now.:rapture::engel016:

I hear you man, unfortunately a wife, two young kids, a job, a band, Grand Theft Auto IV and a Left 4 Dead itch leave me somewhat deficient in the time factor. I'll cycle through them all, eventually! I have to use up all my old Red Baron names after all!

Rick - Grand Theft Auto??? How can you waste your time in the slums, amongst criminals, when you can have your own plane in the skies above Flanders?

Hey, Baywing,
I'm looking forward to the last war year now. Had never played it; thought, German planes were too superiour. But now, I'll do a D VII Campaign in a Guynemer style - lone wolf hunting (although - who will witness my slaughter then?) Anyway - with a D VII, it will be SPAD-shoot-up (I hope...)

I don't know, somehow it's just too easy ;) It's like a video game drug, just like OFF (Come on, just one more mission then you can go to bed!)
