A little while ago, while chatting with an SOH member on Skype, I was bippin and boppin around some beautiful Alaskan scenery in Brian Gladden's Gippsland GA8 Airvan. This plane was one of my first 20 additions to FS2004....right behind most of his other stuff. I really like this plane! The package comes with passenger, combination and full cargo variants and two paints. I started working on this package quite some time ago, but it got set to the side as I started more and more projects. I am moving this project back to the top of the list and get it done....some new skins, revamped VC panel, enhanced interior. And I really need to come up with a sound pack for it.

I agree, I liked this one from the start. Clean, no fuss lines and the promise of challenging bush strips. I thought it was a little stiff and this post made me haul up the cfg from where i left off and start to finish it up. I'm just making small edits to give it more of that in-the-air feel and less of the paper model kind of thing. I've been using a Lycoming sound set by Gary Jones that was made for a twin. I just removed one engine set and it sounds just fine.

I think you should put your dog in the second row looking out the window. And MAF and CAP fly these too, hmm?
 
Thanks for reminding me of this cool bird. Pulled her out from under the tarp and spruced her up a bit. She looks especially nice after adding this section to the aircraft.cfg.

Glad someone likes my Air Van!!! I've never been an flight dynamics expert so getting my birds to fly even close to what they are supposed to was a victory on my part. If anyone want's to have a go at new dynamics. help yourselves!!! (I'll be your first customer)

I did a CAP paint for the Abacus version I did. Mapping is the same so if anyone has that paint, It'll fit on my updated freeware version.
 
Brian, even if it flew like a gum wad your efforts are still praise-worthy. This is what my humble muddling came up with. I only included from below any specific aircraft people might have, that is from [weight_and_balance] on down so be sure to check what you copy over. Mostly the edits are in weight and balance (added one more station for cargo), contact points, flight tuning, propellor, piston engine, flaps and brakes. My aim was to make it operable on FS STOL strips so I used what ever was out there. Idaho strips, some in the California hills, New Guinea, etc. I got what I think is decent performance at full fuel and payload. It really didn't need much and I am no expert. I just fidget until it seems right to me at any rate and hope people agree. Be as critical as you want because I learn with every contribution. Enjoy.

Awesome. I might be able to try it out this weekend as work is a pain this week (Working 3:30 PM till 11:30 Pm tonight... Have to get ready to go in a few....
 
The other night I was working on a new interior for the Airvan. Leather seating, nice exotic wood trim, new carpet.....then I remembered that this is a BUSH plane...was designed from end to end to be a BUSH plane. Not a super comfy, super lush fly about. The GA-8 was designed to be solid, reliable, easy to maintain....and it was designed to be used in rough, dusty, dirty, smelly, lice-infested places. So, that luxurious interior has been ripped out and will be replaced with a more suitable wash-and-wear kind of interior. Rubber floor mats that can be hosed off to remove most of the mud and manure, durable cloth seats that can take some serious abuse. No leather and Burled Mahogany for this work horse.

Oh...aeromed...I have some great pics of the CAP Airvan....but I have no idea how to paint it. I can't get the swoopy lines right...never been good at painting curves and swoops.
 
The fourth row of seats is so far behind the CG, it can be a rough ride. IL Wing usually has access to at least one.

Awesome flight flight dynamics tweaks George. Only thing that seems a bit wonky is the autopilot has a bit of trouble maintaining altitude in a manual turn. if I use the heading bug it still wanders a bit but doesn't drop 500 feet. Other than that... Brilliant!!
