Glass Bottom Piper

So there I was flying in Central California, reeal weather, notmuch wind enjoying the sights in one of Bill Lyons' models of the Piper Cub w/ big fat ol' tires...I thought I might try some puddle skimming later...anyway, I happened to look down and lo and behold I could see the ground thru the floorboards! Hmmm, thought I...so I had a friend take a shot from beneath the plane to make sure nothig had ripped away and he couldn't see thru to the cockpit yet I could see out.......
After landing at Mariposa I found out from a grizzeled old fart that This piper was one of the rare ones with ulta-transparent carbon one-way see-thru floorboards...note in the shot the "wireless" rudder pedals, seemingly hanging in mid air.....that feature is still classified, i understand!!!:isadizzy:

Seriously, tho, I think qwhne the skin was made for this plane someone forgot something., lol. Actually, I think it's kind of neat and a great idea...lke a glassbottom boat.......

First off...where can I find that Cub? I have Bill Lyons Cub package (the Cub4free or what ever it is called)...and it ain't in that package. Is this one still a payware item?

The floor board looks like a wrongly applied alpha channel. Very neat effect..and would be very useful for landing and sight seeing purposes.

If I remember correctly, I got it at "The Old Hangar" in the download section for Golden Wings stuff. Yeh, I kinda like it...The effect would make for some great photo surveilance missions..... It's nice to see ya tripping out with the FS9 stuff, Obio. When I get burned out on Combat simming I always go back to FS9 for awhile and get back to the nuts and bolts of flight...I find it to be very calming..both the flying and the continual search for perfection in the way it all looks and performs. 50 years ago, we would be filling up garages and living rooms with train sets and/or models.

Obio...if it isn't there, pm me yer email and I'll send ya the skin....it may also have been at the Bush Flying Unlimited site....

Found it! CubFs9D on The Old Hangar download page. Also found a lot of GW scenery that I downloaded....

I haven't totally moved away from CFS2..but I needed MORE. More planes, more places to fly them, more options. CFS2 is still there for when I want to shoot or bomb something..but that is really it has been for me. I haven't done any of the addon missions, campaings, haven't really expanded it. Have tried many times to set up installs for the various theaters, and had them nearly done once only to loose them in a HD crash. Takes so much work to expand CFS2 to all the theaters that for me it just wasn't worth the effort when all I want to do most of the time is to FLY!

mid, that one is paint and panel only from the looks of it, but I found the cub4free on Avsim for those who need/want it:

Right you are, Galahad....it is skin and panel for the "cub 4 free" pack. I just d-loaded it and checked.

OBIO, I know what ya mean....I spent a lot of time with cfs2 years ago and more recently cfs3 and all the related theatres, OFF, MAW, ETO, PTO, etc and had a whole lot of fun. However, I've always kept FS9 on my HD and this last year when I was ill for that long period, I felt more like flying around and seeing the world then I did shooting stuff up...they are two differnt experiences. Regardless, If I can suspend my sense of disbeleif for a little while, then it's worked as advertised. I might add that ever since I got a track IR(thanks to a generous flight sim friend) and I went back and started flying around in FS9, it's opened up a whole new level of enjoyment not only in just being able to look around at scenery but also to be able to use reference points while vfr flying. It really helps during landing.

Which reminds me. Obio, could you post the "formula " for changing VC viewpoints? I have a lot of planes that are neat planes but I don't fly them because the view in VC mode is screwed up or not right.
In the Bill Lyons' PA22 Tri-Pacer, there's a little window with arrows that comes up in the vc when you hit "shft+4" and you can change VC view as you're flying. It would be neat to be able to add that feature to other planes. If you don't have that plane yet, you should get it. mid

Here's a quick tute on adjusting VC viewpoints.

Open the aircraft.cfg and find this section:

[Views]
eyepoint=-1.4, -0.9, 1.35 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

The first number (-1.4 in this example) adjust the position front and back

The second number adjust side to side

The third number adjust up and down

These reference points are from the modeled center of the plane....which differs from model to model and may have no relation what so ever to the Center of Gravity for that model.

My local pizza shop owner loaned me his TrackIR system for a month...and man was I so ever tempted to move to another state and not give it back to him. That little camera and hat thingie made flying in FS9 vastly better...once I got the hang of flying WHILE looking around. I have PLANS to build my own system using the Free Track software....but you know how having a PLAN works out most of the time.

I have Bill's PA-22 Tri-Pacer downloaded, but not reinstalled into GW3 yet. Still have a number of his packages to install. Have used them all in other installs, but just haven't gotten around to installing them into GW3 yet. Really need to get them all installed....such amazing aircraft.

I didn't know about the Shift+4 thing....I will take a look at it, and if it is gauge driven, it can be installed into other aircraft fairly easily I would imagine.

Thanks, Obio.....install that stuff...you won't regret it! The PA22 just may be my alltime favorite GA prop plane...it flies nice, looks good and the VC looks good and all works well...it would be nice to replace the goofy kid in the back seat with the black dog from the PA23 pack, but I guess ya can't have everything, lol. I would actually like the dog in the co-pilot's seat and put the lady in the back seat!!!

Obio..the vc funtion in the PA 22 is called "Virtual Plus" in the panel cfg and it appears that it is several xml files in the PA22 cab file that operates the function......

I thought I was on to sumthin'.......actually, the gauge is used for walkarounds and operating other functions on the exterior of the plane...however, if used in a limited way it can also adjust the VC...so, the thing to do is to figure out how to assimalate that function into other planes.....

Looks like someone may have played the old black alpha trick of making the floor disappear. :icon_lol:
