GMAX and CFS3 .dds image scaling for facilities builds ?

I am familiar enough with GMAX in terms of importing .bmp files as a base for building aerodromes and placing buildings on it. The problem I am having is that the coordinates generated by GMAX for building locations does not match the actual placement in the sim when the coordinates are utilized from the .xml file.

I know the .dds images are 1024 by 1024 in size. I need to find out the proper scaling to use in GMAX for the dimensions of the plane (Length and width in metres).

Does anyone know what the metre length and width should be for CFS3's .dds representations for aerodrome fields?

Best Regards

Hi RJW,

Do you have the CFS3 Gmax plugin? It exports to xml in exactly the right dimensions and format.

I made a guide a while back on using it to make airfields:

Go for a 2048 sq texture, much better for detail in the sim.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for responding. It is greatly appreciated.

Yes I have the plug in and yes it creates the .xml file as required but the generated coordinates do not correspond to the desired placement on the terrain tile.
The .dds terrain tile is 1024 by 1024 pixels. I suspect this equates to 1 pixel equals 1 metre in linear measurement. I tried to set my GMAX pane to the same 1024 by 1024 metres specs and when I generated the building location the .xml coordinates are not in the correct place. They are out by quite a bit.

This issue has been resolved thanks to Pat. In essence, the GMAX plane has to be set with the same length and width as the field size in the facilities .xml file for the aerodrome you are planning to add infrastructure to.

Thanks Pat!
