gMax material properities - removing a texture layer

hi to all,
I would like to know, if there exists a way how to COMPLETELY remove the unnecessary texture layers from current gMax material properities. means no future patterns there such layers was used, at all.

my experience is once some material texture layer is added, there is no way to remove it fully back... or I am stupido grando?

sure, you can say all I need is I have to simply untick the current small material layer check box button and then when exporting the CFS3 gmax model into M3D file such layer will be just ignored... true, but this is not gonna happen, if I would like to export such gmax model into eg. FS2004 (FS9) MDL file. the MDLMaker / MiddleMan tool wont allow this until I will create and apply a new material on the mesh. then the MDL export surprisingly pass.

at the attached image sample presenst the left part the stage what I have for CFS3 and the right part of image presents what I would need to have for other game exports.

using gMax version 1.2

I have never been able to figure that out. I normally just remove the material and apply a new one without the specular texture.
The job is made easier if you have the Columbo plugin installed ( http://www.scriptspot.com/bobo/mxs4/columbo/ ) since it allows you to select parts by the applied material.

Having said that , maybe Tom or Ted have a better solution
Cheers!

thank you for your hint, mate ;) yes, I am doing it same way like you and the Columbo plug-in is my favorite plug-in, very handy!

I'm with Steve here, make a new material and delete the old. In Max, you right-click on the unwanted specular or whatever and select "Clear", but Gmax doesn't have that ability. :redfire:
