"God Is My Co-Pilot"

Cazzie

SOH-CM-2024
A repaint of Col Robet L. Scott, CO of the 23rd Fighter Group, who P-40 was the inspiration of his autobiography, "God Is My Co-Pilot". Even though Col Scott was rthought old for combat fighter school at 34, he passed with flying colors and amassed 23 victories during the war in China against the Japanese.

The repaint uses the freeware IRIS Siulations P-40 series, available at their website.

Paint has been sent here and to Flightim, but only recently.

Dog-dead tired folks been a long two days on the road. Going to bed.

Which model P-40 was it?

Col. Robert L. Scott had also flown a P-40 called "Old Exterminator." I did a little googling on it and it appears to be either an E model,...or K model. So I was wondering which one was it,...either the E or K model. Or,...did Scott fly two different P-40's,...one first being the E model and then later the K model?
Or has somebody gotten their facts confused?

The book refers to both models. He first started with the 'E' and switched to the 'K' model after eight months of combat.

The K model is already represented in a paint done by IRIS. It is listed as an E model as "Old exterminator". A K model is essentially an E model with an Allison-built Merlin engine. I have seen no less than four different profiles of Col. Scott's P-40s. This paint represents his first, still with the Flying Tigers insignia on the fuselage and the serial number on the tail before it was replaced by the US national insignia and service registration numbers.

Scott was old for a fighter pilot, 34, he flew C-46s over the "Hump" to supply the Flying Tigers, then enlisted for fighter service and passed regardless of his age. For its time, "God is My Co-pilot", the black & white film adapted from Col. Scott's autobiography was one of the best fighter combat aviation films made.

Without specular shine, it looks like this:

I've just uploaded a complete set of the tweaked P-40E series models (clean, belly tank, one bomb, two bombs) to the skins library. Should be available soon...

Cheers,
Markus.
