Goose Redux 2025

Hi there,

I'm working at a new version of the Grumman Goose. Initially made for FSX by Microsoft, this model have the first rendition by OZx team. Released as a freeware for MSFS, I decided to upgrade and add more feature to this iconic aircraft for P3D V4.5 and upper.

Fully PBR with new custom gauges and 3 different models: the historic 1937 version powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior radial piston engines + the HP (High Performance) version powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp + a Turboprop conversion equipped by two ear piercing Rolls Royce Dart engines.

Both the 3 models will be full IFR capable equipped with GTN750, and there will be also the Garmin GPS 296 version for VFR.
 
Yes, the FSX repaint can work but need to be converted at 4096x4096px and also pbr/albedo map is necessary for work correctly. It is not a difficult work. Each model will have 6 different paint schemes, but if you want I include more paints let me know or send me the ones you're interested.
 
Thank you for the quick reply. I will check my archives for the one that was my favorite in FSX. I have no problem converting the textures to 4096x4096 in Photoshop. If I can't do the pbr/albedo map I will ask you for help. Not right now but maybe next week. I finishing up 2 airports for P3D V4.5. Thread is here KAPF and KRDU
 
Quite ready for the release of this iconic aircraft. Just some optimizations and I will provide you the files for a test before add to resource library.

I noticed that if throttle on my joystick (Logitech) is full back the the plane will not idle (engines shutoff).

Check the aircraft cfg "beta_min" and see what the value is. This is adjusted for turboprop aircraft so that they do not taxi too fast. Perhaps it's too low. Good value is 5. Most aircraft "out of the box" especially default Microsoft were set at 15. I just opened up the aircraft.cfg and the beta_min is set at 9 and the beta_max at 37. Did you calibrate your joystick? I will be able to check it out with CH Products Controls and Prepar3D V4.5 and post my results tomorrow afternoon.

I still want to do some more testing on Monday. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon. The G21HP and the G21 don't seem to have any different impact on my fps. I had lowered the beta min in the HP to 9 but forgot to lower it when I add the G21 so I had to go and change it from 19 to 5 and then it idled and taxied very well. I flew it from a couple different airports. Starting with my KAPF Naples because I had never flown from it, just created. It was only getting 20's and then when I got to Everglades Park, it froze on the water so I shut down the system and then restarted it and checked the graphics settings. Somehow (and I don't care about them, nothing but frame hogs) shadows had all gotten checked so I turned them all off and doubled my frames from 20's to 40's and it flew much nicer on the ground and in the air. I am not a seaplane flyer but had no problem setting it down on the water. The problem (this is me and my system so I hope you get more feedback) it performed terribly on the water with fps in the teens to single digits and then just froze up as I tried to steer towards the shore. My only other seaplane experience is with the SOC Seagull, a seaplane NOT an amphibian and in FSX launching off of cruisers in WWII with catapults. I have a very detailed thread here at SOH about that. They performed well after landing and navigating back to the cruiser to be picked up and replaced on the catapult. I have a download with all the updates of the OZx Goose and I am going to put it together and load it and see how it performs maybe Monday so that I can get a comparison of how it performs in comparison. As far as THIS Goose, it is a joy to fly in the air. I noticed that all the switches and gauges all perform well. I like to use HotKeys to navigate around the cockpit and will have to get back in the aircraft.cfg and see the settings. I just added a last line. When I was descending the last flight to the water I hit the HotKey and it took me right up to the overhead, but the float switch didn't work so I had to go back to the main panel and hat switch up to activate it just before I landed on the water. I'm not through yet. Since I do not own the GTN750, and NEVER use the GPS296, I added a new window to the panel with a popup of the GPS530 from FS9. It works perfectly in both FSX and Prepar3D V4.5 because it is all xml code. I have done this in every GA Aircraft I own with the exception of Carenado who provide their own really nice GPS's. BUT, as we all know, you get what you pay for...well usually anyway, LOL! Ya'all have a super weekend wherever you are.
