This week, Action Comics #1 sold for $1,000,000.00. It is the 1st appearance of Superman.
Then in the same week, Batman #1 sold for $1,075,500. Wowsers !

Being a comic collector for most of my life, I remember when the sale of Action Comics #1 made headlines 40 years ago for the sum of $57,500.00.

I don't have either of these in my collection, but I can claim to have held a copy of Action #1 and looked at it. It was owned by a pre-med student in S'port LA, that was financing his medical education by selling comics. I had contacted him about filling some gaps in my collection and went over to his house to peruse his collection when he pulled Action #1 out. As a collector, I don't know if I could pay that sum of money for a single issue, but, it sure was exciting to get to see it up close and read it!

Don't I wish. At one time years and years ago, I had a whole slew of 1st issues. All gone thanks to my idjit brother.

When I was a kid, comic books were my passion. I had huge stacks of them, each kept in a plastic sleeve for protection. Each week, I got 2 or 3 new comics. Batman, Sarg Rock, Unknown Soldier, War Lord, X-Men, Incredible Hulk and some others were on my monthly list. I also had a LOT of older comics, including 5 copies of Batman #1....2 in perfect condition, 2 in pretty good condition, 1 in fair condition, and 1 that was pretty worn...that was my reader copy.

My dear Mom kept after me to clean my room...it was clean....I just had stacks and stacks of comics, car mags, fishing mags, boxes of fossils. I came home from school one day, went into my room....and it was EMPTY. All my comics, car mags, fishing and hunting mags were gone. I ran into the kitchen and asked Mom were all my stuff went.....she BURNT it all. She said that she had given me weeks to clean my room....I didn't do it...so she did it.

I was more than a bit upset..and Dad was even more upset when he got home and I told him. He gave Mom a very good talking to.

Some years later, when I was at college, one guy I met was seriously into comic collecting. I borrowed one of his price guides, took it home for the weekend and proceeded to read Mom the going prices on many of the comics that I had in my collection. 5 Batman #1s, 3 Spiderman #2s, on and on.

Now, if Mom were alive I could tell her that she burnt 2 million-dollar comics. That would really make her guilty for "cleaning" my room.

Obio,....kinda' reminds me when my Mother got rid of my baseball cards and marble collection when I went off to school. I didn't have a Mickey Mantle but I had some good ones. Almost all Topps and some Bowman.
.............................Gosh,.....I wish Mothers wouldn't do this to their sons in pitching (or burning) their collections of what ever..........................

Batman is an earth born man who becomes a super hero through hard work, training, and the application of science and technology.

Superman is from a different planet, he was born with powers that Earth born humans do not have and assumes the title of Super Hero simply because he was born "better" than the people he rescues.

Batman earned the title Super Hero...Superman was born super. People have more respect for someone who earns what they have than they do someone who was born into a certain class. Just like millionaires...people have more admiration and respect for someone who was born poor and became rich through hard work than for someone who is rich because they inherited the money. Warren Buffett vs Paris Hilton...which do you have more respect for?
