graphic card for OFF3

Dear OFF3 developers, could not find it in the OFF search (yep I'm not good in the Englisch language), but what is the recommendation for a graphic card on the OFF3 game (I'm going for the maximum graphic performance).
Also the best supporting videochip, ATI or Nvidea.
Is Direct10 also supported by OFF3, if so, then this means Vista and a direct10 supporting graphic card.

Dutch - I too am looking to get a new graphics card, but it willbe part of a new computer.
Hopefully our PC expert Parky will reply, but sims are still written where the most telling component is the processor. Always get as fast a processor as possible is good advice, and it follows that if you have a moderate processor (as we all finish up with after a year or so ), it isn't always best to use a top end graphics card with it, because the card cannot give of it's full potential if the processor is a bottleneck.
It's a never ending spiral, i'm afraid-lol

Although the question was directed at the development team, I think I can safely say the following:

1) You don't need Vista with DX10 for OFF.

2) OFF will run on the Vista OS but will not benefit from DX10 as there is no support for it.

3) As Fortiesboy has pointed out, get the fastest possible cpu your budget allows for.

4) Although OFF will run on a number of mid range graphics cards, it will obviously run and look better on the best graphics card you can afford. I'm currently using the Nvidia GTX280 and I'm quite pleased with the results. There are far more affordable options that will render similar performance, the next step down being the GTX260. Very close performance levels at about half the price.

The consensus seems to be that Nvidia based cards are the way to go, but there are some who are quite happy with some of the more recent ATI products. That decision boils down to a matter of personal preference, but I personally prefer Nvidia.

Hope some of that info has been helpful for you.

Cheers,

Parky

What Parky said :)

CPU dual/quad is not important. Raw Mhz speed is. An Intel core 2 duo 8400 or 8500 and overclocked some is good.

I run with an Intell dual-core processor and an Nvidia 8600 video card and all is well. If that helps.

Thanks, performance is not any issue, its a Intel Quad, a low performing business graphic card is addit to it. Yep its nice for doing Autodesk construction programs or Powerpoint but not for high performance games.

Got some requirements from Il1946-4.09beta and RoF (I'm great fan of WW1 flysims)
Il2-4.09b requirements are the Nvidia 8800 or ATIX1800 512Mb Ram or better
RoF requirements GF8600 (Nvidia I think) 256Ram or higher.

I think using these figures will give me a good card for a OFF3/RoF/IL running computer.

The more memory of the video card the better. I got an ATI HD2400 Pro 512 MB and all is good.

If you go that route, go with one of the Nvidia 8000 series cards. Preferably the 8800GTX. They can be bought for ridiculously low prices of late.

Not sure why they'd even list the ATI X1800 and Nvidia 8800 together. They aren't even close in performance levels. Even the plain Jane 8800GT would wipe the floor with an 1800. It's a piece of :bs:....right up there with the 8600. Neither of those is a "gaming" card.....certainly not by to day's standards anyway.

Cheers,

Parky

P.S.

Hey Ickie.....thanks for the new smilies. We shan't abuse them....as you can see....:kilroy:

Yep the quickest possible cpu, recommend a Core2 Extreme Quadcore.

The Nvidia 260 series look like great cards, and I will probably upgrade to them, as I can then run a triple SLI setup.

Also if your budget allows, whether you go with 64 bit, or 32 bit, get the hotest ram your board and cpu will support.

when I get my new rig im definately going with the 8800GTX too CJ, because.......well Parky told me to:costumes:

Check www.newegg.com. I don't know what they're doing now, but they did have them recertified for $128.99 and new ones for $219. I bought the recertified and it works like a new one. Came with software and all accessories.

They don't offer them any longer, sorry.

I have the BFG 8800gtx 768 mb (factory overclocked) very nice card. Its in a Intel Q66oo cpu QUAD CORE, 4GB DUAL CHANNEL RAM,machine and ready for OFF3 p.s. Not too sure the quad core is needed but it works well and I can o/clock it if necessary.

Thanks once again for the help guys. I appreciate it.

Thank you all flysimmers, for the advice.
RoF, changed the spec for Videocard to: 512 Mb video RAM(GF9800 series or AMD ATI Radeon 4850 series). So it will be an top of the bill card :d, but be possitive, it will make my discission easily :birthday2:running:.

Thanks

Dutch

note: it will be an interesting gaming year, 2009, can't wait for the release of OFF3 and RoF:ernae:

Personally I'd go for a 8800GTX if money is a concern (768MB rather than 512MB on the 9800).
Preferably a GTX 260 or even better a GTX 280.
