Graphics card display issues...need advice?

Navy Chief

Senior Member
I have a ASUS HD5870 Matrix graphics card. Recently, I reinstalled FSX, and installed P3DV2.

Recently, I noticed some very thin black lines will occasionally appear, vertically, on various areas of the monitor.

They do not remain; they flicker and disappear, then reappear.... The lines seem to appear when a larger load is placed on autogen.

Just wondered if there is a test to determine if I have a problem, or just need to alter display settings?

Thanks. NC

Chief,

I don't think it's your GPU. I have similar issues at times and it does indeed seem to be an issue with certain textures loading within certain conditions(both simulator light/weather conditions and the level of texture loading in/on the model & VC). I notice it is different depending on certain aircraft and scenery in use.

I experience the same from time to time also, Chief. Among other bugs.
You might download the latest drivers just for piece of mind. Although in my case it made no difference.

I have had similar experiences and it appears to occur when very heavy scenery is loading or has just loaded. Video card driver updates don't seem to help. I just put it up to massive scenery just overwhelming my particular system.

Best, Paul

Thanks all. I am beginning to feel as though it's nothing too terrible to worry about.

I will keep a close watch on any further developments though! NC

I have a ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU and had those flying in Orbx territory with a lot of trees. Just move your autogen back a notch or two and see if that works.

I have the setting max in default scenery with no problems. It just over loads the vcard in Orbx since I have 1GB vmem only.

On one of my machines I run two 5770s in Crossfire and about 3 weeks ago noticed I was getting some weird things happening within AMD Catalyst Control Center (and also started getting artifacts in FSX). The only solution was to clean out all graphics driver related files with AMD Catalyst uninstall followed by a restart and run of 3D Guru AMD driver sweeper (now called something else). After another restart the latest AMD graphics driver properly installed and all works OK. Your mileage may vary Pete!
