Graphics problem

Member
about a month ago my graphics card died so I bought a new one. It's an upgrade but my CFS2 graphics are terrible.I've tried different resolutions and setting in both the game and the card.

Nvidia Geforce GT 740 4GB.

Some pics. You can see from a distance most look ok but when up close terrible. The one with the saber really shows how bad.

All other games I have look fine so it's just CFS2 I have a problem with.

Anyone have suggestions?

Bookie,

I have a Geforce GTX750Ti & am using driver 353.30. You need to use Nvidia Inspector to tweak the settings. The CFS2 in game options really won't get you very far.

But first you need to check CFS 2 is picking up the screen res to get the best results. Go into custom graphic settings. You need to pick a x32 resolution. If you select x16 you're limiting yourself to 16 bit colour. In my copy the 32 res are in the top half of the list.
You may see 2 entries for the graphics card. Pick the first one.

Tick "enable hardware acceleration"
Tick trilinear filering
Tick MIP mapping, anti-alias & T & L

This enables everything in the sim. But Nvidia Inspector will allow you to override & enhance these settings further. You can save different profiles for different games. Finding the right settings can take time, for instance I never can get my FS9 to look as good as my CFS 2 (mind you, I don't really spend much time with FS9... things don't go boom! :p87:)

hope this helps.

Uncle Tgt

Problem is I have no x32 resolution settings in CFS2.I use to but for some reason no more.Very odd.

Problem solved.I went into the CFS2 Config and where it said resolution was 16 I changed it to 32.

Thanks Uncle Tgt I never would have thought of it if it weren't for you.

Still seems strange I can't change it in game.

Hi TB,
The reason is because the sim cannot automatically fully recognise the graphics card and it's graphics drivers/capabilities, and therefore add it to the CFS2.cfg. It see's that it is a GPU and therefore gives you certain graphics settings ie 16 bit. By adding it manually you override that and so the sim gives you the higher graphics options. As UT does, creating an external custom GPU profile is the real answer.

Nothing at all wrong with Nvidia cards, but they are not as easily recognised or handled as older ATi/AMD cards in CFS2.

The worst two things people believe (when it comes to CFS2, and others) is newer and more powerful is better (that's cards AND drivers). The sim/game is very very limited as to how it pushes poly's and pixels around, so you could throw twin Titan's or R290's at it and get no better result than a decent on-board chip. It just can't take advantage of latest hardware or drivers...as good as it is..it's still a 15..yes 15! year old sim...Gawd bless 'er!...;)

Cheers

Yes, either add/enable whatever, but that's why it's disabled, as it doesn't recognise the capabilities of your GPU so it couldn't automatically use the higher settings.

Just explaining the 'why'.........:wiggle:
