Gray Instrument Panel

Hello Hertzie,

I didn't want to take Hubbabubba's thread off on yet another tangent.

If I understand correctly:
You are having issues with a Me 262 Instrument Panel.
You cannot see through it because it is all gray.
I saw that the Panel.CFG file was organised rather strangely and even the primary panel did not display on my simulator.
The other sub-panels did display and most of my screen was transparent.
I modified the Panel.CFG file so that it would work on my machine but it apparently did not correct things on your machine.

Obviously there is some kind of configuration difference between your simulator and mine.

Next Questions:
1. I presume that all the stock aircraft work correctly?
2. Have you downloaded any of my aeroplanes and do the panels display correctly?

- Ivan.

Hi Ivan, to answer your questions:
1) yes, all the stock planes work fine
2) it is not the panel of the 262, that works ok, but it is the extra MINI-panel I put in with the 5 main gauges. They are in a grey rectangular (= the background) and what I hoped to construct is that that grey rectangular would be invisible, so it would look like as if the gauges were floating (like in CFS3). I managed to get the background-color from black to light grey, I tried a palette (didn't work or I may not have the right color), but I hoped that one of you would know the background-color code for light grey (IF there is one...), so I could try and see if THAT works. I tried maybe 20 different codes, read Hubba's "more fun for CFS1", where I got lost (sorry Hubba, not YOUR fault, it's just that I don't get it, it's TOO much) and so let it rest.

Do hope you understand this explanation.

Thanks!!

PS: no, I think I've not yet dowloaded one of your planes, for so far I have only been busy with all the CFS1-stuff I had in my archives......

Regards, hertzie.

hello Erik,
your last post triggered a
couple old memories.
(no small feat these days)
somewhere, way back when,
i did what you are requesting.
floating gauges with no background.
problem is, i'll have to fire up
my long dormant cfs machine
and search through years of crap
in hopes of finding the solution.

please be patient while i look.
we can only hope this isn't
an old man brain fart.

we have good news
and we have bad news...

first the good news,
it can be done...
i've done it with a fw190 panel.
and, i believe, a bomber panel.

now, the bad news,
i don't remember how i did it.

here's the kicker,
while searching my old machine,
for some reason, it decided to shut down.
i let it rest and fired it up again
and was able to find the panel in question,
but my big monitor decided to act up.
i won't go into those issues.
if it isn't one damn thing,
it's another...right?

so, there's your update.
i'll keep trying,
if you'll maintain your patience.

quick question,
what gauges do you want to see?

I know how to do this because I just did it on my Test Panel.
See the "Conspicuous" thread post #1350.
Panel 3 is all Transparent but for the monster Trim Gauge on the Left.

To start, I created an all Black background of 1024 x 768 pixels
The problem is that if there is nothing but Black, the window will be all Gray.... (Sound Familiar?)
Next, To make the background transparent, there has to be SOMETHING on it other than all Black.
I drew a small square of another colour that was hidden behind one of the gauges (in my case, the ONLY gauge).
The small square (any shape will do) isn't visible because it is behind a gauge.
The rest of the screen stays transparent.

Before now, I had no idea of what you were trying for.

- Ivan.

another dusty memory
and a question for Ivan;
is the trim gauge adjustable
with the mouse or is it a readout?

it seems i remember hubba and i
doing some gauge experiments
trying to see how the panel.cfg line
render_3d_window=1 or 0
affected certain gauges on a panel.
mainly, those that can be adjusted
by clicking them with the mouse.
compass, heading and auto pilot come to mind.

as i recall, some gauges required a background
to function, others did not.

as always, i offer a disclaimer.
it's been eight years since i played
with panels and gauges.

Hello Smilo,

I remember that there are some CFG file options that affect whether gauges are mouse-able or not.
I have been using modified stock CFG files, so the mouse is not ignored.
The problem here is that these two trim gauges were programmed by ME and *I* don't know how to program a mouse function into the gauges yet.

So.... The answer is that another Trim gauge might be adjustable by mouse clicks but mine is not....Yet.

I am still learning how to program gauges and also how to adjust the Panel.CFG file, so EVENTUALLY I may get there.
I will need mouse function if I intend to program dual throttles, but before that is more dual readout gauges for the Mitchell and the Lightning which requires DUAL POINTERS which is still beyond me at the moment.

- Ivan.

hello Ivan,
as always, it looks like
your project plate is filled to over flowing.
i'll withhold comments in an attempt to stay on track.
suffice to say, the trim gauge is a readout
and not mouse adjustable.

i've spent the past few hours
attempting to duplicate a fs9 default mini panel.
it turns out, my memory was playing tricks
and combined cfs and fs9 panel options.
i believe i can give hertzie what he wants w
as soon as he tells me what gauges
he would like in the mini panel window.
hopefully, the selection will be stock gauges.

i wonmder if i should mention my Fancy Dan HUD?

Hi Smilo, I'll send you the Me-262, in the panel folder you'll find all the gauges, I do hope that it are more-or-less "standard" gauges, but renamed as "ME262".....

Regards, hertzie.

Hello Smilo,

Don't withhold comments.
My plate really is filled to overflowing in many more ways than we are discussing here.
I have plenty of projects in other areas as well, but generally don't mention them here.
They do eat a fair amount of time though.

As an example, my daughter has a school project that needed some assistance.
Although I am not doing things for her, I spent a couple of hours yesterday making a jig to help her make things.
A couple days ago, I found that neither she nor her project partners had any concept of how a tool was supposed to work and the tool was so dull as to be useless. I had to sharpen their brand new tool for them.
My living room floor is covered in plastic scraps from when the kids were here this weekend.
(Anna Honey is out of town. Otherwise, she would be screaming and yelling about the mess.)

If you saw my posts on other forums you would see that I have other craft type projects going concurrently with these virtual aeroplane projects....

So, it is always a matter of choosing what to do.

- Ivan.

hello Erik..i got it, thanks.
i'll see what i can do,
as soon as i can.

hello Ivan,
i figured you were busy.
a gross understatement.
all i can say is...Ah, youth,
those were the days.
it amazes me, you are able
to get as much done as you do.

Hi Smilo, that's the vertical speed indicator, German version. I think you will have it in your FW-190a: "FW190a!Vertical_Speed" -gauge. If not, I can send it to you.

Regards, hertzie.

hello hertzie,
i thought you might like a progress report.
here are two images that result
from changing the line;
child_3d=1 to
render_3d_window=1

attachment.php

and, this image to;
render_3d_window=0

attachment.php

here's the rub, with
render_3d_window=0
the altitude and gyro gauges
can be adjusted with mouse clicks.
render_3d_window=1 can not.
i believe clickable floating gauges
can be achieved by adding
an all black background BMP
with dark gray circles behind the gauges.

the second rub is my monitor is so pixelated
i am unable to make the bmp for you.
until it decides to stop acting up.
i can't even see my cursor
on the right third of the screen..really sucks.

Hey man, you're a genius!!!!!!!! Works wonderful, also with the background of the throttle-levers!!!

You made me VERY happy!!!

Thanks (x 100 :)),

hertzie.

thanks, Erik. i'm happy to help,
but, let's not get carried away
with the genius stuff, okay.
i got lucky.
