Make sure you get both the scenery and photoreal base textures.

Nice! I'll probably leave out the photo ground base, but the 3D objects look nice in the previews.

Hi Tom,
The problem with what you said is that they buildings do not line up with the stock or any other mesh I have tried. You get buildings floating in the water etc.

I've had the older versions installed for about 18 mos. now and they look great and compliment the many Japanese airports available. I'm getting the updated files now. The Tokyo area is especially good and if you know where to fly you can find the Ginza, Akihibra and Shinzuku districts. Most of the scenery is identifiable from the Godzilla movies and Anime shows that uses Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka as locations.

To compliment the cities I installed some mesh files for Japan from this site...

There are instructions in English but most of us should have no problem installing it.

Thanks for the tip. I'll go ahead and download the other packs and see if I can pick out the mesh/landclass stuff.

Edit - looks like I won't be putting it in any time soon. I've never been a fan of photo-real ground, since to me it always looks like just that - a giant photo laid out across the ground. It looks like brilliant work though!

Great find! thanks!

Tokyo is one of my favorite cities in the world. I was just there last week on a research trip. The city never sleeps; it's like living in an Anime world... (Ghost in the Shell). It was cold and wet last week. A better time to visit is around April or May...before the super hot summer hits...

here are some pics i took from last week as well as from previous trips. I can ID some of the buildings from the scenery in these...

Nice shots, Fengz ! Being an anime fan, I've always wanted to visit there and from your pictures...it's huggggeeeee !

FengZ, those are great shots. I remember the big department stores in the Ginza at Christmas time. The toy departments were fun, they have people assigned to demonstrate the toys. I played with a lotta neat stuff. :d Also dropped a couple hundred bucks (1969 money) on model trains.

yup, Tokyo is big, but if you buy the guest rail pass (only purchasable from outside of japan), you can get around very easily. You can even go on a day trip to Osaka or Kyoto from Tokyo (about 3 hours on the bullet train). Btw, a lot of girls still dress in Kimonos in Kyoto...very neat to see.

If you love anime, you HAVE to visit Japan. There's literally an entire city district devoted to anime comics, toys, electroncis, etc....it's insane! Every time i go there, i have to put away the wallet...or i'll end up buying the whole store! haha....just such cool stuff you can't find in the states (or show up in the states 3 years later).
