Great wingman borrowed me his plane

Olham54

The Bordeaux-Red Baron
Well, I must still wait 'till Monday, until my account is (hopefully) balanced, and I can order "Between Heaven and Hell" at last! But: my friend, neighbour and wingman Uwe got his "Between Heaven and Hell" yesterday!
With almost shivering fingers we opened it and installed. And: no problems so far!!!
Although his rig is rather below medium range, everything worked fine. It seemed, that BHaH had chosen, how high each quality slider could go, and the result looked really good.
The framerates were much better than with P2, and I couldn't trace any stutters.
Well, now we wanted to see, how it would be on my system (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2,33 GHz; 2 GB RAM; ATI Radeon X 1900), as I can only order on Monday (when hopefully my account is balanced again).

Install took quite some time, but it was mostly loading the skins; and that only "fired my appetite". And then: everything was right for a start. Old joystick and other settings were still there!
I enlisted a pilot, and saw, how much better that menue now works. The map is clearer, and you can see your Squadron/Jasta base, related to the time you choose. Also, you can read right from the beginning, what planes this Squad/Jasta will use throughout the war. So, you can choose the right plane, and the desired position to the front line! Great!

My first flight was a "Quick flight-free flight" in a Halberstadt D II, with three wingmen. They stood to my left, waiting for my signal. Ivory white, with the black Iron Cross - beautiful! Start and take off were easy, but then I realised, the wingies wouldn't seem to follow. I had just chased out and up; so, I pulled throttle to 85 % and did a full circle - and there they came! What a feeling, to see them eagerly coming on with full throttle, to link up with me!
And then we just flew over a beautiful landscape. Farmlands with patches of juicy green or straw yellow, alley ways, single trees and smaller woods, a brook, farmyards and villages - all bathed in the generous gold of an April afternoon sun.
I let my view glide around; everything so quite in this golden hour; sheep clouds very high up, and larger cumulus clouds towering around me; my wingmen following happily left and right.
You almost heard birds chanting, a distant church bell - war seemed to take a rest, seemed so far away...

It is hard to express my emotions, not using my mother language - I'm just overwhelmed! This is such a "big dream come true" for me; since "Flying Corps" I have been waiting for this.
I want to thank you - the whole OFF team - from deep in my heart. And I will write more reports from my coming flights, as soon as I discover all the lovingly details "Between Heaven and Hell".
