Ground textures for a Korean install

ian elliot

SOH-CM-2025
Firstly, ive spent to much time in FS9 land and coming back to CFS2, im setting up a Korean install around the Fox-Four campains and i was wondering what ground texture's you guys would recommend,as Korea is quite high in the northern hemisphere with really nasty winters, im thinking some Euro or Eastern front textures would be more suitable rather than Pacific.
I also remember'd someone made an improvment on the airfield textures used in the FF campains, but i cant remember who or when.
cheers ian, this sims never going to die, is it :applause:

Hi Ian, Richard Ludowise has made all of the seasonal textures and IIRC you can D/L them from Avsim. Their library is still a bit...on again off again. You can try a search using his name.

For the transparent air field grass file, check the D/L here by Tango Romeo or at Simviation.

Good to see you in the basement again Ian.

One of the nice things about Richard Ludowise's seasonal textures is that if installed per the instructions, you can select one of five seasonal textures sets through the Scenery Library. Just turn all but the one you want off and the one you want on.

Hi Ian

Dean Reilly did a customised version of Richard's textures (with his permission) to produce a hard winter texture set specifically for Korea. This was back in 2002 and so I'm not sure where you'd find a set now but it's worth having if you can find it.

Cheers

Thanks guys, i like the look of the RL winter set best, but i think i must be really out of touch as i cant get any texture's other than stock to show,
most add-on texture set seem to follow the same install precedure,
A, copy and paste your Worldlc, bgl from your CFS2/scenery folder to the scenery folder of what ever texture set your using and activate through scenery library ,,,or
B, transfer your add-on textures directly to the CFS2/sceneryb/world/texture folder and CFS2/texture folder and have them as stock textures from start up, i know i'd lose the stock pacific texture's with this option but that dos'nt bother me as this is a pure Korean install.
But what ever option i chose, i still cant get the RL texture set to show.
I wonder where im going wrong, cheers ian

GREAT to see you back in CFS2 Ian .... it's been a long time. :wavey:

Had enough of flyin' those FS9 "buses with wings" eh?

Well to be honest, im still a great fan off FS9, but there's plenty off space on my HD for both, my FS9 install has a strong cold war theme with lots of 50's and 60's jets and the Calclassics ai and period airports, a lot of standing patrols up the east/west german border and baltic but not being able to fire a shot.
I like your philosaphy, CFS2 give's me a chance to let of a bit of steam

Update, ive just done a complete uninstall and reinstall and follow'd the Read-me to the letter and still no-show, very strange :isadizzy:
cheers ian

Sorry but I'm not sure what's causing your trouble; but I am sure Tango Romeo could help.
You can find him in the Simviation forum as he is no longer a member here at SOH.

I like your philosophy, CFS2 give's me a chance to let of a bit of steam

I hear ya Bro. I have FS9 & FSX. (tell anyone and I'll deny it! :redf:)

CFS2 is like a mature woman who gets better looking each day. Fun, exciting, horny & ready for action; plus she's VERY willing to try new things. :applause: :applause: :applause:

FS is like a stunningly beautiful trophy-wife ... who doesn't cook or clean ... spends all yer money .... and just hates sex! :crybaby:

I've removed them both .... got tired of sight-seeing (plus I can put the 40+GB of HD space to better use)..... now I only have 12 CFS2 installs representing different theaters plus a test sim & the Vietnam beta versions 1.5 & 2.0.

I also run the MS Train sim (MSTS) ... kinda like FS9; but on the ground.
Breath-taking scenery & a Turbo train that does 200+ MPH. View attachment 20799

Ian,

Go to your scenery library and move the five seasonal scenery folders down to just above your land class and mesh folders in the scenery hierarchy. CFS 2 can be sensetive as to where you have the folders.

I've attached some screen shots of the hierarchy for a different add on as an example, but you can see that you want to put the seasonal entries down low between the landclass and your airfields. Using the last screen shot as an example, you would want to place your seasonal textures above the land class entries, but below the CFS 1 Runways.

If this doesn't work, we'll go to option 2 next.

Hi Jadg, no show im afraid, im betting ive installed something wrong but i cant work out what.
im making some assumptions here, firstly, ive only installed one set, the winter set, do i have to install all five? for them to show.
and im test flying from the Korean airfields shipped with the Fox Four start up packs, if ive globelised correctlly, these texture's should show up in free flight, QC and campains
whats option 2, cheers ian

Thats intresting, ive just dug out an old European airfield, flown from it and the textures seem to work, so they show in Europe but not in Korea, that means there's something up with the Globalizing, ive double check'd and there is a copy of Worldlc in my add-on texture/ scenery folder, and ive copy'd/pasted my Sceneryb/world textures to the root texture folder so there must be something else to do.
cheers ian

Option 2

Ian,

If you want, you can just copy and paste the winter textures into a new install without all the gyrations of setting up all five sets. I often do this and then if I want to change seasons, I just copy and paste the new season into the standard CFS 2 installation. It's a lot easier to do and in reality, is just as fast as going through the full install.

Just copy, paste and overwrite into the CFS 2 folder that has all of your textures. Don't worry about turning them on as they will always be on until you copy and paste a new season into the folder.

I have my Ostfront installation set up this way and it works just fine.
