Grumman AA-5B Tiger (BRSimDesigns) released

A plane a lot of folks have been waiting on, the Grumman Tiger, just released.

Inexpensive, but I’m holding off for opinions. Hasn’t been tested in VR according to the product page, and the Ercoupe and Debonair I have from them are just okay.

It's got my (user) name on it so I'll be getting this one sooner or later, been waiting years for a decent AA-5!

One of my favorites from Tim Conrad and flew it quite a bit in FSX and P3D. Only problem I've had thus far is trying to find the Avionics switch. The battery and Alternator switches are on but no power to the radio stack and the on/off switches on the radios don't seem to work so where is the Av switch? Otherwise it's a nice rendition of the Classic Grumman Tiger

Remarkable.. In my book of aviation *this* has always been a classic Grumman Tiger :

Over at Grumman they love cats. We know that. Couldn't be that they ran out of cat species when they needed a name for their AA-5B, could it ?.. I bet even today there's no such thing as a flying 'Ragdoll' or 'Ragamuffin', right ? Grumman AA-5B Ragdoll or Grumman AA-5B Ragamuffin. (looks a bit 'homebuildish' to me or cheapish PA-28 (no offense)). I'd say that would fit this little purrin Grumman better than the ferocious lethal tiger, both as the real beautiful cat and its flying militairy namesake.

Must say i've never heard of the Grumman AA-5B Tiger..... Maybe i should buy it just because of that.. I have always known the Grumman F-11 Tiger of course. I believe Phil did one for FS9.... Flew as Blue Angels too.

Anyway, just saying.. ;-)

(maybe a first in aviation : 2 aircraft designs by the same company that couldn't be more different but still carrying the same name...)

Yeah, Phil had a nice Tiger for FSX. Hoping he brings it over to FS24. He did mention to me that the Skyray's in the queue, so hopefully... Agreed that's the Grumman I'd really like!

I read a lot of Flying Magazine as a kid, and the Tiger had a rep as a civilian plane with the kind of build and performance you'd expect from the Grumman name. (Though no .50's or Sidewinder racks.)

Is that your cat?

Ow well . Guess all that has been said in the sierra thread , applies here aswell.

Well, yeah, except FSW is charging $35 for a plane with stock MSFS systems, and the Tiger is $18. So I'm gonna buy this one and not that one.

FIXED! When I initially set up a flight for the Grumman I failed to switch to that airplane so I turned the Developer Mode on and loaded it that way. My guess is that while it loaded the airplane some of the systems were not loaded. All subsequent flights were fine, all systems working.

This one looks like a single I'd fly more often. My only question is whether the external registration is dynamic or textured.

Having lost a few of those friends, I am sorry for your loss. The ONLY bad thing about dogs is that they don't live long enough.
Thank you, Brian. Yes, exceptionally poorly organised by mother nature, having to always say goodbye to your best friend. It's cruel, shocking and very upsetting and you know it's eventually coming but you pay the price over and over again because of the intense love, friendship and pure allegiance you'll get in return. I could never be happy living without a dog or a cat.

Ok, back to the Tiger, that's something else.. ;-)

Kodi was so adorable, @Javis! Looks like an awesome little buddy. I'm so sorry he's gone, but glad you had 12 great years together.

On the Tiger front, this is Gus. He's nuts but I love him.

Simon (bottom) and Athena are much more chill. Athena's my familiar, always in the room with me.

Back on the Tiger that I should be talking about! Bruno already released an update today correcting everything I emailed him about, and many other items. It's really solid now. Flies really well, and I love the panel. The needle vibration (which can be toggled off) checks out well with the Mooney and Beechcraft planes of this era I've been lucky enough to get a chance to take the controls on.

Profile of the tail is more accurate to photos of the real plane. Weirdly, his original profile matched the 3-views available of the TIger, but the real planes had a more squared appearance. Maybe the Grumman machinists didn't like doing the curves.

You can hide the tablet now, which is nice, since it's just used for setup and checklists.

Really nice plane for the money!

Just got it and took a flight from Hana to Kahului, but the long way around the south side of the eastern mountain on the island. The gauge vibration got annoying after a minute, so that got turned off. The one thing I'll say about the flight model is that it is very susceptible to turbulence. I normally don't even get queasy on a bumpy flight, but just the 2D visuals on this flight nearly had me reaching for a bag! Maybe it was just the natural conditions, but this flight at mostly 4,000' was a rough one. (I was running real weather, so that probably contributed to it.) On approach to Rwy 02 at PHOG, the autopilot captured the ILS very nicely, and with a 20 knot almost direct headwind, the 60 KIAS touchdown with an actual ground speed around 40 felt like I was nearly stopped when I hit the ground.

I can't say much about the ground handling with the free castering nosewheel, because I installed a rather complex set of well-hidden steering linkages. (I changed the steering angle in the config file to 50° instead of 180°.) I imagine that even without that, she'd turn just fine on the inside main for a nice small turning radius. Diff braking with just a twist stick rudder is enabled by default. (Thank you very much to the dev's for paying attention to those of us that don't use pedals!)

Thank you so much, Denny, he certainly was, very special. These 12 years have gone by like a sigh of wind.

What a lovely bunch of cats you've got there ! Envy you ! Great photo's too !
