Grumman Goose Sound Pack

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
I recently installed FSX....didn't have it installed long as my system is not nearly well equipped enough to run FSX to the level I would want to run it. But, I did have it installed long enough to develop a liking for a number of the sound packs...so I stole them and have/will be reworking them to work in CFS2/FS2002/FS2004. The first one that is fully done is the Grumman Goose sound pack...can actually be used for any single or twin engine plane that uses the Pratt and Whitney R-985 radial engine (though I like the Beaver sound pack I uploaded earier for the Beaver and the Max Holste Broussard as it is just much more ogre-ish). So, I am heading off to upload the Grumman Goose sound pack now.

Nice one OBIO. I might have to take a gander. Looking forward to trying it out. My goose, geese & goslings aRe waiting

Thanks OBIO :applause:

You can never have enough P&W R-985 sounds :jump:

Pete.

Can never have too many sound packs...regardless of the engine they represent. An R-985 in a Beaver, one in a Goose and one in a Spartan Executive...and all three engines may sound very differently...depending on the specific model of the engine, the exhaust manifold structure, the exhaust pipe location and diameter.

With that being said...I have a THIRD R-985 package I will upload in a day or so...this one based on Mike Hambley's sound pack for the GB Racer (BA_GBR.zip on flightsim.com). I took Mike's base pack, added in some files from Lawdog's packs for non-combustion, props, environmental sounds....the result is a totally distict R-985 sound pack.

forget now which other fun twins might like this sound pack. reccomendations? good job reconnoitering the Dark Side and bringing back the goodies.

I jest of course. people who have enough machine are having the time of their lives in X. I would get it just for the ships....

thanks again OBIO

I have been trying for nearly a fortnight to download this soundset, without success. It seems that since I made a donation, all I am allowed to download are the files made available to charter 09 members. Click on one of those links, and everything happens just as it used to. Click on any other download link, nothing happens and I just get sent round in circles. :isadizzy:
Can someone help?
TIA

I like the new sound file in particular the idle sound. But you may want to release it again with the waterloop added to the ground roll section.:wavey:

[GROUND_ROLL7]
filename=xwaterloop
flags=8
viewpoint=2
minimum_speed=2.00
maximum_speed=90.00
minimum_volume=6000
maximum_volume=10000
minimum_rate=0.67
maximum_rate=1.59

I am working on a "new" method for adding the water loop sounds to sound packs so that the pack still plays normal ground roll sounds for amphibs and normal fuselage scrape sounds. I know it can be done....MoparMike did a how to on it sometime ago....I just can't find that write up now. It was in the Tips and Tweaks section. I suppose I will just have to send him a PM and get the info from him directly.

Once I know how how to set up the sound config and contact points for this style of water looping, I will begin modifying sound config files for amphib/float planes and uploading modifed config files.

Ickie -
Thanks for your quick response.
I use Firefox, have done for probably 12 months now, no previous problems downloading from SOH.
In the last 15 or 20 mins, I logged out of SOH and came back in. I was then offered the F4U download. One left click on the CFS2 link, the normal popup appeared asking me to confirm I wanted it in my 'Downloads' folder, I said yes and five minutes later I had the file. Not much use, since I don't have CFS2, but it does show the system is working.
When that download finished I went to AddOns>FS2004>Sounds and did one left click on the Goose sounds zip. Nothing happened, and after some minutes I opened another tab to type this.
Earlier this hot Oz morning, I tried a right click, then 'Open in new tab' when I looked at the new tab I was on the same page I had just left. I also approached the file via the New Files list, and got the screen with a download link in a banner across the middle, with some details about the file. None of the links on that page got me anywhere.
Is it possible for you to temporarily make me a non-charter member again? I noticed the download counter had increased from 166 to 167, so someone must have succeeded.

Thanks to Tim and Mike, I now have the sounds, and very good they are, too.
Just for curiosity, I logged in from Ol' Reliable, my trusty Win98SE/Office97 workhorse and downloaded another file OK. Being Win 98 of course it is running Firefox2 or thereabouts. BigBeast(The Flying Machine) has been on 3.5.5 for a while but it is a bit flakey - stays running after I close a page, and even when I say File>Exit, for instance.
Anyway, thanks to all who helped. We can work out the cause-behind-the-cause later.

Cheers :ernae:

Obio did you say these sounds will enhance the Kingfisher? It would make my day for the Piglet/Stallin Cuba one in my hanger.

Have you tried FS Sound Studio? If you look at the fourth menu in the photo you can see where each ground roll sound is assigned to activate on one or more ground surfaces. This is represented in the sound.cfg in the flags = xxxx. I modified my copy of your sound pack so there are seven different ground roll sounds for various surfaces. Works great!

Yep, the Kingfisher used the R-985. You can use the Goose sound pack, the Beaver sound pack (which is also a R-985 but throatier and more grumpy) or the third R-985 sound pack that I will be uploading today (based on Mike Hambly's GB-R R-985 sound package).
