A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: Martlet mkII(fixed wing) by Captain Kurt

This is a new model of the GM Martlet mkII(fixed wing) for CFS 2.

The Martlet II was the first Martlet actually ordered by the British Purchasing Commission for the FAA. The contract was for 100 F4F-4A equivalent aircraft with folding wings and 3 guns per wing with 240 rounds per gun. The first ten Mk.IIs were delivered to F4F-3 standards with fixed wings and 4 wing guns. This model depicts those first 10 aircraft. They were powered with a Pratt and Whitney R-1830-76 Twin Wasp, which had a two stage two-speed supercharger. The wings were fixed, with 4 wing guns and 430 rounds per gun. They spent most of their service with 802 squadron, & most were lost when the world's first CVE, HMS Audacity, was sunk by U-751 off Portugal, 20th December 1941.

The textures supplied follow their history with 802 squadron Fleet Air Arm:

"Q" AM963 Sub Lt. Jimmy Sleigh scored the first carrier-based kill for the Martlet, downing a Heinkel He111 whilst on detachment to HMS Victorious,in the Barents Sea, Norway, 13th September 1941

"R" AM958 An impression of the aircraft flown by Eric "Winkle" Brown, operating off the deck of the world's first escort carrier, HMS Audacity. He would score 2 Fw200C Condor kills during their short-lived deployment on the Gibraltar convoy run, September-December 1942.

Description: Martlet mkIII by Captain Kurt

This is a new model of the GM Martlet mkIII for CFS 2.

These Mark IIIs were 30 ex-Greek Martlets that the FAA acquired when Greece fell. They originally kept their BuAer Nos. 3875 to 3904. These were the first 30 F4F-3A Wildcats/Martlets built. They were powered with a Pratt and Whitney R-1830-90 Twin Wasp, which had a single stage two-speed supercharger. The wings were fixed, with 4 wing guns and 430 rounds per gun.

The textures supplied follow the history of the Fleet Air Arm's Martlet III unit, 805 squadron:

"K" 3875 flown by Kiwi Sub Lt Don Nairn, 805 sqn FAA, in North Africa, circa August 1941.

"K" AX733 Now carrying a UK Air Ministry serial number, this Martlet was flown by flown by Sub Lt W M Walsh to shoot down a Fiat G.50, 28th September 1941

"D" AX744 By late 1941, 805 sqn was operating from landing grounds further inland. B/W photo's suggest it's possible some aircraft were repainted with Middle Stone upper surfaces.

"N" AX841 In March 1942 805's hard-worked Martlets were overhauled & the role changed to mainly coastal convoy escort & air cover. During overhaul they were repainted in Temperate Sea Scheme, more suited to this maritime mission.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: Martlet mkIV by Captain Kurt

This is a new model of the GM Martlet mkIV for CFS 2.

These aircraft were supplied under Lend-Lease, and were the last Wildcats built for the FAA by Grumman, and the first to be called Wildcats. The Mk.IV reverted to the Wright R-1820-40 Cyclone with a single speed, two-stage supercharger. These were equivalent to the F4F-4B. All had folding wings with 3 guns per wing and had 240 rounds per gun.

The textures supplied follow their history serving with the Fleet Air Arm:

"O o 7D" FN112 flown by Lt Denis Jeram of 888 sqn FAA, operating from HMS Formidable during Operation Torch, North Africa, November 1942.

"7 o F" FN245 898sqn FAA. HMS Victorious deployed to the SWPTO in the spring of 1943. She operated as a dedicated "fighter" carrier with USS Saratoga as cover for the New Georgia landings. The few photos that exist seem to show the RN's Martlet's had been repainted in the US Navy's new tricolor scheme, even though Saratoga's Air Group was still operating in the earlier 2 colour scheme!

"O o 9P" FN142 893sqn FAA. This aircraft flying from HMS Formidable during the assaults on Sicily & Italian mainland, July-September 1943

"Q" FN168 Aircraft used by Lt E.S. Erikson of 811 sqn FAA to shoot down a Junkers Ju290, 16th Fabruary 1944, whilst operating from HMS Biter as escort for a Gibraltar-bound convoy.

Thank you Uncle for these nice planes, I like the variety in the textures, I would never have thought the FAA painted some of them with the tricolor scheme or some with the stars still on them. Really interesting. Thank you again :applause:

Thank you so much Captain Kurt and Uncle Tgt for all these great models and liveries.
As usual your realisations are top level !

I left Capt Kurt out by mistake when I thanked UncleTgt for these great new additions. I truly appreciate both your efforts and forgot to mention CK by mistake. Thank you both for your great works.

The F4F is such a gem of an aeroplane. One of my favourites to fly. Thanks to both Capt Kurt and UncleTgt, you've done the Wildcat proud.
