I need Guns to fire 90 degrees left and 30 degrees down. Request advice.

Thank you.

Yo PJ;

gunstation.4=1,49,2,0.08,870,2,1,274,2,20,1d1*18.4,-1.20,-0.55,1.20,0,0,45,-85,30,45,-45,5.184

left angle, right angle, up angle, down angle (degrees).

I think your problem is the left angle. The left side, pointing 90 degrees from forward would be at 270 degrees ... NOT -85

Give it a try & tell us how you make out!

Pitch and L/R angle

From my observation and testing of the DP gunstation functions:

The left, right, up, down swivel angles start from where the pitch and Left/Right angles are set at. If your L/R is at 45 (since this a positive number and less than 180 it is at right side of the aircraft) and the right swivel angle is at 30, then your max right direction is 75 degrees from the longitudinal axis of the aircraft (Where 0 degrees is pointing to the front). The -85 degree is swivel to the left from L/R of 45. This gives you a true angle of -40 from the longitudinal axis, which would be shooting forward and left from the aircraft.

The same would apply to the pitch angle, here it is at zero so the up and down traverse would be the true angle to the lateral axis.

I hope I was able to explain it okay.

Another bit of confusion is the pitch angle. While a negative pitch is up elevation, the swivel up is a positive number (reversed).

This is 90 deg. left, 30 deg. down, (-/+) 0 deg. Traverse, (+/-) 0 deg. Pitch.

RED = Elevation,Azimuth(X,Y) in Degrees (if "-", it is (left),(down))
GREEN=Traverse(swing) in
(-/+)degrees=(left),(right)
BLUE=Pitch(up/down) in
(+/-)degrees=(up),(down)

A better set-up would be:

This is 90 deg. left, 0 deg. down, (-/+) 30 deg. Traverse, (+/-) 45 deg. Pitch.

Enjoy.

In DP files, after the "power value" (1d1*xx), you will find.
-three values giving the position of muzzle flash ( Right/Left, Up/Down and Forward/Backward)
-three values determining the angle of fire for the gun ( Pitch for Up/Down, Bank for Left/Right and Heading for Left/Right)

Rotation Pitch = This tips the gunstation up or down. A negative number tips it upwards, positive tips it downwards.

Rotation Bank = moves the gunstation left and right. A positive number sets it right, negative to the left.

Rotation Heading = This controls what direction the gun is facing.
For a tail gun you'd use 180, left waist gun -90, right waist gun 90. The numbers are degrees of a circle.

The four next values indicate how the gun can move (in turrets, as an example) when used by an AI gunner

The last value is just the bullet weight

In your case, you need to ajust the Pitch and Heading values.
