H1N1 hits close to home...fatally

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
A lady that is not really family per se, but is like a part of the extended family...you know what I mean.....has died from H1N1. She was 48 years old, healthy in the truest sense of the word, no medical problems. Started filling ill on Saturday, died yesterday due to complications from H1N1. She had been having flu-like symptoms for a few days before her husband convinced her to see her doctor. Her doctor sent her to the hospital and had her admitted Monday or Tuesday. The H1N1 turned into pneumonia of such severity that it was all down hill from the onset.

Please take this virus SERIOUSLY! If you show even the slightest signs of flu-like symptoms, seek medical attention....do not wait, do not assume that a bowl or two of chicken soup will get you through it. This virus is NASTY and a killer. Sure, the media has hyped it to the ends of the earth....and many have become deaf to the warnings....but the hype is not just the usual media blabber.....it is real.

Yikes! I'm sooo sorry to hear this Tim! Wow, how devastating it must be for the family.

And you are absolutely right, with the media's "hyping" of this disease, a lot of people have shrugged off the seriousness of it. I am one of those people. I was very sick a couple of weeks ago, and even though my husband urged me to go see a doctor "just to make sure", I flatly refused and insisted it was just a nasty case of the "regular flu". I am blessed that I was right! However, your post makes me realize that this deadly disease is for real and should not be taken lightly.

Take Care & thank you for the friendly reminder.

I had the H1N1 for a week and the doctors didn't want me to see them! :mixedsmi:

Sorry to hear about what happened.:frown: When I had it, it was the sickest I had ever been. Fever 102-103 for around 4 days straight. I could hardly get out of bed. The worst part is that we were moving to our new house then. I was completely outta it that whole week.

Sorry to hear the news Obio. We are getting calls daily for flu-like symptoms that 95% turn out to be H1N1, which is all that is out there for now. The regular flu hasn't really shown up yet. The best advice is get your shot, take care of yourself, wash hands often, watch for and clean transmitting surfaces like door knobs, steering wheels, keyboards, etc, and cover your cough.
The hospitals are being over-run with flu patients that have no serious problems. They are now having us put masks on patients that have any flu symptoms and if possible these folks are being screened outside the ER proper to reduce the spread. But if you have worsening breathing problems, have a high temp, or have lost a lot of fluid that you can't replace then get to a hospital.

Tim, Sorry to hear this. 48 is way too young for that. But life can be cruel at times.

Again, your warning is heeded despite the darkness of the message presented.

Petitions sent in respect.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss, the loss of a close friend can be harder in some ways than a family member - you choose your friends and each for special reasons! I lost a long time friend last summer to Hep A and it was extremely difficult.

We are getting the double dose here our seasonal flu has begun and H1N1 is going around at the same time, there is some speculation that H1N1 may have peaked but no one is ready to say for sure. I had one or the other in mid Oct and it was not on my list of fun things to do. I did get tested bu tthe result was not conclusive and by the time I got the result I was feeling better so I didn't go back. They have not started clinics for "Non Urgent" patients here in my region yet so I can't even get the shot, but when they do I will be in line that is for sure.
