Hardware guru advice needed

Guys,

Got a new PC a few months back with:

Win 7
8Gb Ram
i3 Core processor
Intel HD Graphics built into motherboard

It's been running CFS2 cleanly but at only a slightly improved FPS (average 50 FPS) from my old XP rig (average 30 FPS). Question... I want to add a GeForce GTX 750 Ti 1176 Mhz 2Gb GDDR5 memory video card. Can anyone tell me what kind of FPS increase I may see with this new card? Would like to get an idea before spending the $150 for it.

Col ,, you,ll be interested to know that card , is a wee bit better than I posted at first trial,s ,, still in set up mode , It doesn,t like the Yas spitfires , turned into a kalidiscope of colours , from the sun,s ray,s , I started playing with screen set up , 1024x786x16 , Biliner and mip map only , at 58 fps ,,, Maxed out all inputs and max screen size by x32, Fixed the Yas models , Fds Vr2 , oddly Fds vr1 and Gmax models were fine at any setting , Clarity improved big time ,,and the FPS climbed to 77 ,
Must be Dx 11 and better card compatibility .

Adding a dedicated video card will always be better than integrated video.
You should see a vast improvement adding the card into the mix. When
you do add the card make sure to go into your mobo's BIOS and turn off
the on-board video. I also highly recommend getting NvidiaInspector, and
using this over using the nvidia control panel. NI gives you more options
and control of your video card. I also recommend getting either MSI's
Afterburner or EVGA's Percision X to have control over the cards fan, and
if you want to overclock the card.

Ordered the new card today.
Asus Geforce GTX750 Ti 2Mb GDDR5 ram 1078 clock speed. The card comes with a utility program that lets you overclock the processor. As soon as I get it up and running I'll let you knwo the results.

Col if you pick up this card , use the windoze 8.1 fix on it , I,d post the FPS
on that , but every one here , would think I was smokin some high dollar stuff !!

In addition to turning off the on board graphics in the BIOS, I would check the wattage on your power supply. Some video cards can be a real drain on lower wattage units.
For the video card your talking about here, I would run at least a 450 watt PS. You'll get better overall performance that way.

Qoute , will I need that on Wn 7 ? See what the FPS max out at first , your running double my ram limit , but I think Cfs-2 will only see 4gigs,
if you put in Sdc, s 4 gig patch ,
I,m running a 3.1 x 4 core Intel processer , cause the shop couldn,t get a new dual core mother board ,
Since I,m not a teck geek , I questioned their reasoning on choice , and my nephew explained , that multi processors newer ones , each have their own cashe box , where as the older version,s used 1 cashe box shared between processer,s , and that you want the largest cashe chip size available , vrs processer , That ,s where you get the best results in gaming , Even though the game is single threaded , he claim,s that when Cashe chip size is reaching max levels , It kicks over to another Processer and empty cashe chip to carry on ,,
I guess I,ll find out if I,ve got the blazing saddle , or the stall to clean out,

Blackbird,

All of this has just become academic because...

my power supply is only 320 watt. And apparently I bought the only model computer (Compaq 8100 Elite) in the world with no extra 4 pin power molex cables for video cards. My PSU powers the motherboard with an HP proprietary configuration of odd connectors. There are no direct higher wattage replacements for this unit either. So I'm going to have to find an aftermarket PSU with the odd connectors, 500 Watts AND extra 4 pin molex connectors for a good graphics card.
And we were told that computers were going to make our lives easier. :banghead:

Now that suck,s ,, No end of problems these contraption,s , I requested Xp platform and that was a problem , they had to retrow fit an old stock , mother board cause I still use , need the sound card port , out put , to M$s digital 3d stick , and they couldn,t find the adapter plug they used on the last machine , the new board had no pci slots , for sound card ,

I am no guru, but have done some of this in a volunteer position at a non-profit, so types of plugs are certainly important as are the dimensions and configuration of the PS itself. I used to find one with the correct plugs but it would not fit into the case I was converting. :banghead:

OK, so I got an Nvidea GTX 750 Ti with 2Gb Ram that DOES NOT require a spare power connection but gets all it's power from the PCIe x16 slot. The manufacturer redcommends a 400 watt PSU and mine is only 320 but the card runs great. Now I average 55-93 FPS no matter what the settings or what's on the screen. Finally, something that works LOL
