Hawaiian Checkout Mission

In addition to working through the lessons, I'm picking away at the Missions.

I've been OK so far with all of them up to the 'Hawaiian checkout' flight. Much confusion here.
Despite searching I couldn't find the take-off strip. Wandered around and eventually found a space long enough to get airborne.
When overflying a Strait a bit later, where I was told whales could be sighted, there was nothing but jungle everywhere beneath me...no water anywhere, as far as the eye could see!
Hunting for the landing strip whilst the green 'here it is' indicator showed yet more jungle below me.
Any ideas what might be amiss, fellows? I can recall doing this ages ago and all went smoothly but that was with plain FS 2004, I think.

the next Mission, the San Juan Islands trip went perfectly well.
