He-219 problems

I have 4 models of the Gryphon He-219, 2 stock and 2 modified by I believe Obio, I cannot get any of them to show up, the most response I can get is it will not display the model when I set it as an attacker. I know this is a CFS1 A/C, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Bones

Have you looked at the sound.cfg in the sound folder? Open it in word pad.

It tipicaly says:

[fltsim]
alias=A6M2_Zero\sound

If you have deleted the A6M2_Zero folder from the CFS2 install that contains your He-219 folder then you must change "A6M2_Zero\sound" to a sound folder that has it´s complete sound files in it´s sound folder or to a location where you have your engine sound folders. (I have mine in another shared folder for all my installs). Or simply copy the sound folder of the A6M2_Zero and ovewright the He-219 sound folder.

Errors in the sound path are the most commmon cause of add on aircrafts not appearing after installed. Specially when you have made an ETO install deleting japanes aircrafts or when you have made a shared engine sound folders. It´s something I´ve learned as I walked my first steps in CFS2.:running:

I hope this can help you.:salute:

Hi Bones,
As long as you have the correct sound, panel and airfile then should show, and all files named correctly.

If this was downloaded direct from the Gryphon site then it will have to be run through an mdl converter to make it totally CFS2 compatible. BUT! use this link and this version has been put through the converter and should work AOK!

Thank you, I am downloading it as I write. One more question: Where can I acquire the .mdl converter?

Thank you again.

Hi Bones,
There are two for CFS1 aircraft to CFS2 aircraft. The first one is at Microsoft.com and this converts CFS1 ac to allow the showing of CFS2 weapons attached to the aircraft in the DP.

The second, http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=cfs&file=convertMDL.exe, is the one I have been talking about. This basically updates the mdl file so that it is fully compatible with CFS2 .i.e the Gryphon He219.

To be honest Bones, there are not many ac that have not been made specifically for CFS2. They look a lot better and have as good frame rates as CFS1 ac, and usually there are more re-paints/mods for them.
An example is the 'oldie but goodie' Michael Gurezka's He219, found here or at Simviation, much much better than the Gryphon one..;)

See the difference below!!

Shessi and Discus, when I set the -219 as aggressor A/C for QC, the plane does not show in the animation window to the right. When I go to QC it says "visual model cannot be displayed" and something to the effect of the mission file being not configured correctly.

This is my second install of CFS2 on this computer as a test install, I did not delete any of the original aircraft, the A6M2 file is still there. When I get my game computer up and running I'm going to leave this install as the original game, with the original planes(modified to fly and with new skins and panels). I'm going to do as many of you have, multiple installs for different wars and locations.

Could there be an error in the original .mdl conversion? I've never been able to get this plane to show up in this or the previous install.

Hope this helps.

I'll grab both of those files and Michael's plane. I have two of Michael's Bf-110 nightfighters, after I added panels from the AS 110C the second plane I shot down using the Schrage Musik was one of Micheal's 110s, the -G model with the large radar array. My first plane and what got me hooked(as I knew I would)on nightfighting in CFS2 was(I stand corrected as to author) one of Thicko's Do-215s, the one with the four-gun array angled upward. My family is amused as when I see the wing on a Stirling blow up from below, I give a growling shout of "schrage musik!". It's especially challenging finding you aiming point for planes with no upward gunsight, such as the Judy-S or the Zero modified with the upward cannon by Oldhweat. I've found sneaking up on a bomber from below without being spotted by the lower turret gunner is very hard and challenging. If you ever played any WW2 sub sims you know what I mean. I downed a B-29 in a Judy and damaged 2 more in a formation of 8 planes in QC before I had to run.

Thanks again, something tells me the Gryphon -2i9 is not going to work for me.

Herr Bones

I just downloaded and installed the HE-219s that I uploaded....which is based on Michael Gurezka's visual model and the Gryphon Aviation air and config file since the Gryphon bird had a better start up sequence.

I had the 219s into Freeflight and QC against 8 Zeros....I collided with a Zero who was in my blind spot.

Check the sound.cfg. I have the sound aliased in a rather funky way to Lawdog's twin DB602 sound pack. Grab Lawdog's DB603 sound pack from the library and drop it into the SOUND folders and all should be well.

OBIO

Obio(He-219 successful)

Well friends, it's Xmas, and the browser hijackers out of Red China will not let me reply with quote.

Obie, I got both your He-219s to work. I still can't get the Gryphons to go, I'll play with them, it will be a training experience for me. Some questions:

1. When installing these new sound files from the Outhouse library for engine sounds, do I put them in the sound folder of the given aircraft folder and edit the sound.cfg. file to alias them towards the given aircraft folder, or do I just put them in the general CFS2 sound folder?

2. How do I toggle the overhead gunsight and the HUD in your He-219s? The Gryphon readme says to toggle the "hat" switch, I have no idea what that is. 99% of the enjoyment of operating nightfighters is the schrage musik guns, I wish I could work the programming for creating these effects, there are several of the A/C using them that could use update and gunsights.

Thanks for your help. I did 4 Stirlings in QC, damaged two more, before I had to run with a shot out engine.

Herr Bones

3. Is there a general autopilot feature in CFS2?
