Heads up! New Scenery; San Pedro de Atacama

I think this was featured on AVSIM a couple of weeks ago, so I've also been tinkering with it.
Hard to understand why it's there, in this picture the background is the real thing.

There is this dude who is waiting by his pickup for something, and he is still there when it's time to leave...

I'm tickled by the scenery, there is AI, a terminal, animated road traffic, and of course plenty of desert.
If you want to go somewhere, VFR is easy, follow the road.

...which leads to nearby El-Loa (at Simviation, http://www.simviation.com/fs2004scenery100.htm )

Chile is well-served for FS9, plenty of sceneries to find and absorb in future flights.

Hard to understand why it's there...?

Well it's there because just North of there is the world's main (80% of total) deposit of Lithium, which as we all know, is used in making modern batterys.

Well there you go - Lithium, the next Oil.
I always tell people flightsim is an educational experience!
Saw an item in the news a while ago, that a USD1 trillion deposit of lithium has been discovered in Afghanistan.
These things always pop up in the most uncomfortable places...

Where'd you get the photo scenery from?
It's what GE Pro does with "Desert".

Interestingly, because it's so high, FS9 weather will create clouds that sit on the deck.
You can see this in the middle distance in the first pic.
Active Sky on the other hand, is smarter than that, and knows to put them up in the sky, as in the last pics.

Thanks for the heads up on the scenery. If you search for "Chile" under FS 9 Scenery at the larger sites you can find several more good additions to your South America scenery.

I've spent some time in the Atacama and can report that it is even dryer than it looks. It is often cool and humid in the morning when the fog rolls in off of the Pacific and it can cut visibility to just a few feet at times. The fog can last most of the morning and prohibts flying when it is at its worst.

You can see the mineral strata in many of the hills leading up to the high Andes.

Here are a few photo from the vicinity of Copiapo.

I suppose one day, we will just enter a FS world that downloads real-time aerial textures in 3D, on the fly!
Meantime, I reckon a good set of textures is still the way to go.

I've done some small 5 km x 1 km FSEarthtiles areas around airports, and found it all a bit iffy...
Lots of work, patchy photo quality, and of course you may not distribute it.

There's a lot of Chile stuff, even a trawl through AVSIM produces more than one can want at one hit.
Or better yet, of course: http://www.freewarescenery.com/fs2004/chile.html
Perhaps to do the country justice, one should spend a bit of time finding out what's recommended...

Toni Agramont has done Chile along with Argentina and Bolivia. He does whole countries and very nice. At Avsim and FlightSim.
