Health food.....

I grew up eating New England style clam chowder and love the stuff. I just don't get it much. I bought a can of "Healthy Request" clam chowder the other day and went to heat it up for a light supper this evening.

That was the most vile tasting mess I can remember ever sticking in my mouth! :barf: I put the uneaten bowl out on the porch and the outside cats wouldn't touch it.

No wonder my daughter won't touch any food with "health" written on it!

Willy,
Healthy Soup = Tastes Like Crap
Also stay away from the Campbell's "soup in a box" line. I tried the tomato flavor once and it was horrible. It's now packaged with the V8 logo but it probably still sucks.

Willy-

Soup in a can can't beat the "real homemade stuff". Don't know if you are familiar with "Legal Seafoods" restaurants? There's actually one in Boston's Logan airport. Anyway, their New England chowder is one of the best chowders out there. You can actually order some from their website.
If you want to treat yourself one of these days, I would recommend you give them a try. I'm confident you won't regret it! Hey, you might want to put it on your Christmas list ;)

i make my own vegetable beef, and i used to have a vegetarian recipe for swiss chard soup (but i lost it)

nothing beats making your own. i'll be having the vegetable beef for lunch today. i had it for lunch and dinner last night. i had it for dinner before that.
i make ALOT

Now not ever soup that has Healthy in it tastes bad. I like Campbell's Healthy Request Gumbo, Veggi, and chicken noodle.

....But I do admit their Healthy request clam Chowder is terrible. Also go for the regular selection there...

Thanks for the link C9G! I'll certainly have to give it a try one day.

As for the healthy canned stuff ... most of the problem is that sad lack of the salt that they use to make the stuff.

A good handfull of salt in any healthy "dish" will bring out some flavor ...

But as a rule I eat the Select brand of Campbell's soups. Always better.

:costumes:.....
I just fired up a veggie cake on the skillet...not too shabby...:mixedsmi:

(BTW, I'm a full-fledged omnivore...)
