Mention has been made in this forum in the recent past of a helicopter autopilot. This would be a very useful feature for those of us who take these things on sometimes rather long flights and have to constantly watch our height. In reviewing the config files of a number of the helos on my sim I note most of them have an "autopilot" entry in them, always set to "0". There is almost always a flight director included in the config file as well, also set to "0". I know there is at least one "autohover" gauge available on some helos, but that's not the same as what I'm thinking, which is something that will allow forward flight but keep the aircraft at a steady altitude until it's time to descend, or go into a hover, at which time it can be uncoupled. Is this possible given the flight dynamics of a helicopter in FS9?

Look in the file libraries at AVSIM and FS.com for 'helitrim.zip'. This will allow you to trim out a heli like a normal aircraft so that you can have forward speed with no pressure on the stick.

I have it on all my helos in FS9 and FSX (it's been a while but I think there is a FSX specific version).

I have very few helo's as once I found one that I liked and I could fly- I stopped searching.

Try looking around here: http://www.hovercontrol.com
I started with Antti Pankkonen's Dauphin package and never needed to look for another helo. The autopilot is superb- fully coupled auto hover, NAV and GPS waypoint tracking, and terrain following IIRC. There are some other stand alone A/P units in the gauges section as well as doc's on how to configure the CFG file to use them.

There was a thread about this not too long ago.

Someone took the autopilot that was included in Jordan Moore's Bell 412 and packaged it as a stand-alone install along with the apropriate config edits.

I can't remember who did the pack but I got the link from the thread here and installed it in all my helicopters and it works slick.

Thanks everyone, I will investigate from first post down and see what's appropriate given my needs.:wavey:

at hovercontrol, look in the gauges section for HC075DI_AFCP_UPDATE. it should fix you up
