Help - 1.25 update, now I can't get into MP

I get an error asking if the CFS3 CD is in the drive and "Patch DLL Error: VirtualProtectx(.rdate) failed.error 0x0000005=5"

Added cfs3mp.exe to firewall exclusions, set it in XP Compat and "Run as Admin", tried reinstalling patch, allways the same result.

Campaign works fine so it must have something to do with the cfs3mp.exe (my guess). Tried copying a known good cfs3.exe and renaming to cfs3mp.exe (same bit count), same result...

Edit: I have the DVD version, no CD is required... also, if I put a shortcut on the desktop for the cfs3mp.exe and run it the game starts but I have no MP ribbon because I never got into multiplayer the one time necessary to create it from OffManager...

No idea what that is Gary, it worked in testing fine. Possibly the version you have does not like the exe to be called that, or there is still something blocking it. Try enabling windows firewall and disable your current firewall and AV and try a test?

Windows Firewall disabled, AVG Antivirus off, same exact error message...

OK even less idea then :)

"Possibly the version you have does not like the exe to be called that"

WM will have to check when he's around tomorrow.

I have the CD version also and the exe from it is actually larger for some reason. I even tried putting those in and putting a CD in... same error. Let's see what Winder has to say.

OK thanks.
Gary please send offlog.txt from
...\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData
to the support email please.
(when you run with the DVD exe's in place)

exe's from the CD have the cd check code that's why they are bigger.

Follow up - Woke up this morning and was thinking that the one thing I didn't try was checking the new, patched OffManager.exe (I assume you changed it to call the cfs3mp.exe) to see if it still had Admin rights. it didn't. Set it to "Run as Admin" and now it goes right into Multiplayer! No time to mess with it now but i'll test again when I get home... looks like that was it!

Yes indeed - we had to do that to fix Vista MP mis-match!

Cheers

Seems to be it. In Vista, anytime an exe exists that calls from within to another exe I believe it must have admin privileges. In this case you replaced the original OffManager.exe and the new one wasn't set for Compatibility so I assume that was the issue (as it works now).

Glad we figured it out!
