SOH-CM-2023
I'am gettting to be a pest again but something has me baffeled(as if thats news) I have been trying to install a panel into the F-89d and no matter what I do they won't show up. Now I had the F-89 installed before and decided to reinstall.
The first time I had a panel from the F-101 installed but this time I've tried every panel but a Sopwith camel and nothing shows up. I have installed many panels before with no problems but for some reason this time nothing will show up and I can't figure out whats wrong. Any help would be great as I've always liked the F-89 and hate to uninstall it. thanks

In aircraft.cfg check the panel entry, if your complete panel is in the main aircraft folder then there should be nothing in the panel line

Once you check the aircraft config entry as explained by Rich to make sure that the panel= line is empty, open your PANEL folder, then open the Panel.cfg file. If there is no VC on the F89D, then you can alias the panel to any plane you want. And here is what the entry would look like with the panel aliased to the stock Jenny for example.

alias=Curtiss_Jenny/Panel

ok

Ok here is my panel config,I've aliased other panels ,matter of fact putting the new voodo panel in is what started the whole thing,I liked the old panel in the Voodo but khew it wasn't as accerate as new panel so I deleted it but when I tried to put it back ,nothing.I think Ron Hill may have changed the config files for his panel,because there were about four of them,there wasn't that many before I don't think.This is the one for fs2004.

rom Flight Sim in is what started the whole thing and I had alised the older panel to the F-89.

First I want to honer the brave

I know this is about panels ,but today being want it is I want to honor the brave first responders and others who willingly went into harms way that day .God bless you and the familys who lost so much that day.
Getting back to panels I found one I liked better and followed everyones advice but no luck.Does it matter that some lines in the config files still have the name of the oridginal plane in them,and I put the line alias=Northrup_F89D Scorpion/panel as the last line in the panel config file?
I realise now that a lot of the panels I changed were done with the now defunct Flight Sim Manager.
I wonder if some of you panel builders out there would consider making a panel for this (to me anyway) beautiful plane?I can send the config files for both the plane and panel if someone could show me what changes to make if no one wants to make a panel for the Scorpion.The panel I'am trying to put in is also from an F-101. Thanks

There's almost too much information here to follow. Seems you've changed panels enough that it's gotten a bit confusing.
TARPSbird made the easiest suggestion of all, just alias the panel you want to the scorpion and be done with it.

When you alias a panel, this is all that should be in the cfg file:
[Fltsim]
alias=(type the name of the aircraft folder you are borrowing the panel from here)\panel

That's it! So if it's the Alphasim F-101 that you're using the panel from then the panel.cfg file for the Scorpion should look like this:

[Fltsim]
alias=Alpahsim F-101\panel

Nothing else. The sim will pull the panel and all the gauges from the 101 and place them into the scorpion.

I'am sorry but Isomethings not right

I'am sorry for being so dumb but something still isn't right ,I'am goung to try and put both the aircraft and panel config files in with the changed I made and can some kind soul tell me what I did wrong. First the aircraft config then the panel config. Note in the aircraft config I left the panel= empty ,and in the panel config I aliased it ti the F-101

This makes me think you're trying to alias to another panel.

// alias=Kazunori Ito McDonnell F-101B_Voodoo /panel

The // remarks the line out where FS can't read it.

If you're aliasing to the Ito 101 panel, your panel.cfg file should just the name of the aircraft folder that you're aliasing from on it.

[FLTSIM]
alias=folder name\panel

Put the name of the Ito 101's aircraft folder in place of "folder name" in what I've posted here.

your right

your right ,the Ito F-101 is alised to the Grumman F-14 ,but I'am getting my config files miixed up,it was said the words FLTSIM are in the aircraft folder folder but their not,there in the panel config folder,if you could tell me what changes to make to the aircraft config,then what changes to make to the panel config ,maybe that would help,as I said the words Fltsim are in the panel folder not the aircraft folder.I'am getting my config files mixed up.I'am so sorry for my stupidity and if I can't get this soon I'l delete the F-89 and forget the whole thing.

I quit

Ok I've had enough I've tried your patience long enough.I can't thank you guys enough for taking the time to help but I'am just too dense to get it.Hopefully someone will make a panel or complete f-89 someday but until then the F-89 is no longer in my hanger. Thanks so very much again ,you guys went above and beyond.

You can't alias to an aircraft that's already aliased to another. In this case, you'd have to alias straight to the F-14.

We can still work this out.

If the Panel folder for the panel you want to use is in the F89 folder the aliasing is not needed just make sure the panel= line has nothing after panel=

There should be no aliasing entries in the panel.cfg.

One thing I noticed in your aircraft.cfg there is a underscore between panel and sound which is part of the panel line which should not be there, try getting rid of that first it may make no difference but who knows the vagaries of Fs , Fs may be looking for a panel named panel=_

[fltsim.0]
title=F-89D 66th FIS
sim=F-89D
model=
panel=_ <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
sound=
texture=421

You're not getting off that easy! :d
Let's fall back and regroup. What I would do at this point is:
(1) Delete Ito's Scorpion from your FS9 aircraft folder, the whole airplane. Dump it.
(2) Re-install the original unzipped, untouched aircraft.
(3) Now open your FS9 aircraft folder and you will see Ito's plane. I assume it's the same one I have so the folder is probably named F-89D, right? OK, don't rename it.
(4) Open the F-89D folder, then the panel folder. It should be empty, right?
(5) Now that you're in the panel folder, open a new text file and type in these two lines:
[fltsim]
alias=XXXXX\panel
(6) Save the new file as panel.cfg. You'll be prompted with a warning about changing the extension from .txt to .cfg, go ahead and do it anyway.
(7) For the "alias" aircraft choose one that you know for sure has a complete and functional panel when you fly it. In the F-89's panel.cfg file, where I have the XXXXX, delete that and type in the name of the alias aircraft exactly as it is named on its aircraft folder.
(8) Save the panel.cfg file.
Start up FS9 and select your F-89D Scorpion (either paint job) to go fly. If you have followed the above instructions, when you cycle to 2D panel view you should now see the alias aircraft's panel. If you still can't see the alias panel it's not likely any of us can help you without an e-mail exchange.

Thanks Tarp but....

Thanks Tarp, but I you over estimate my computer knowledge.I made a tex file ,typed in what you said but didn't get any warning when I changed the name.I didn;t know how to move just the text to the blank panel folder in the F-89and the name on the file of the plane s panel is just vd445,it's an older Ito F-101. I wasn't even sure how to make a text file ,just stumbled on it while messing around,and that may be the wrong way to do it.
So thanks for you not giving up but I'am not computer literate enough to do this.

I did it!

I don't know why this worked but I first checked to make sure the panel line in the aircraft config was blank, then just put the contents of the panel file of the planes panel I wanted to use into the panel file of the F-89 and I'll be darned if it didn't work.I now have a panel in the Scorpion.
Thanks to all who encouraged me and for all the advise,you gotta be the bestest people in the world.(no I didn't mispell bestest.)

And that is where we were trying to get you to all along! :)
In my previous post I was tempted to mention "don't mess with Ito's original aircraft.cfg file" but I didn't want to complicate the step-by-step instructions. Glad we were able to get ya squared away, and everybody else got a panel-aliasing tutorial out of the deal. Two rules to keep in mind:
(1) As Willy mentioned, you can't alias to an aircraft that's already aliased to another. Ya gotta alias back to the original aircraft that has the full panel package in the panel folder.
(2) Aircraft may have more than one model or texture folder but usually just one panel folder, so don't put anything in that "panel=" line in the aircraft.cfg file.

And that is why I'am such a dumbohead

It was so simple I was misreading what you guys were trying to tell me,I have this thing about making the simple complicated.Thanks my friends:jump:
