:wavey: Hi all,
I had to set up a new(slower) internet connection, I messed up and did a system restore..
No big deal, well now NONE of my CFS3 installs (13 of them will run..)
I get a blink of a splashscreen and them NOTHING..
I anyone has a idea please let me know..
It will take me weeks to reload everything..
And I can't do ANY Missions until then..
Thanks,
Owen
Really Bummed in The Shire right now..

CTD immediately after loading the splash screen? It sounds a lot like what a friend of mine suffered from and he got it running by simply deleting uisel.xml, if you haven't tried it yet it's worth hoping it works.

Yes I deleted the visel and stuff from the apps data in XP..
And the games are not generating any new ones..

I have uninstalled my Stock CFS3 and reinstalled it..
Did a config set up, and still just a Blink of the
splash screen and Nothing..

Again it did not create a new visel in the apps data folder..
At a BIG Loss here..

I have done system restores before and never had this happen..
I hope some one will come up with a answer, if not I maybe without CFS3 for a long time..

It would take me weeks to rebuild and set up all of this.. Even with my complete back ups, I can't get any of this to run???
Really Bummed right now..

Oh everything else runs fine Just the CFS3 installs are not working at all..

HH, it sounds like you may have a driver problem. Did you check out your Device Manager and see if all your drivers and/or devices are operational?

CFS3 games do not load

Hi Guys and HH

I have the same problem. Drivers and everything seems to be fine. I had a error message like 'common.dll not found' or something similar, not sure. Also,my DVD and CD players do not play anything except pictures and gives me the "Please insert disk in the specific player.

I am running out of ideas. A trip to the shop again, might be in order; or, Win7 upgrade

Like HH, I cannot run any missions. AY Bendito!!!

Any suggestions besides burning the computer, LOL

God bless

Heve you tried to restore to the latest(newest) time? The time before you "messed up and did a system restore.."???

I think it's possible to do that.

You might try to "explore" your CD, and find the 'common.dll' file and copy over to your HD install.

Just another thing to check - run CFS3config and check your screen resolution. I sometimes got that mucking things up.

And next time don't stand on whatever's next to you, use a stepladder! :icon_lol:

Thanks Guys,
I am grateful for your help..
I have found the probem..

My Newest update for Avira, does NOT Like the CFS3.exe..
Blocked it from starting..
So I dumped Avira , and are now using AVG Anti Virus and all is well..

Got to thinking about what had I had changed, and the only major change was in Avira anti virus, so I deleted this..
Then tried my CFS3, suddenly everything ran..
Now I have a running set of installs..
And AVG Anti-virus program..

Thanks everyone..
The driver throught was the tip..

There is Great happiness in THE SHIRE..
And much rejoicing..

Not to mention that Avira isn't that great as an anti-virus program to begin with... I've used the combination of Avast and ZoneAlarm when free security has been needed in the past. Nowadays a better choice would be Microsoft Security Essentials and ZoneAlarm, and if you have Windows 7 you can ditch ZoneAlarm as it has a working firewall in itself.

I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for almost 8months or so alone. Is there some reason you use ZoneAlarm with it? I thought it was fine by itself.

It doesn't have a firewall in it and the Windows Firewall in XP doesn't even pass for a bad joke. In Windows 7 it's fine by itself but XP needs a separate firewall program unless there's a hardware firewall in use.

Perfect, that makes sense. I have a hardware firewall so I'm good to go I guess.

I am pleased that I was able to work this all out..
I have never had a problem with Avira anti virus, untill this latest update..

I have Malware and spybot loaded also.
The AVG seems to be working well..
I did a complete scan and all was clear..

I do tend to do overkill when it comes to this stuff, don't like Little Nasties
running amuck in my files..

Thanks all, very much, I was very upset for a couple of days..
So Now, There is MUCH REJOICING :applause: :applause: :applause:

HH, Glad you got things sorted out, the skies are always safer with a Hobbit around.

I noticed in your last post you listed 4 different AV/Malware apps, they are all good, however you are quite possibly going to run into issues if you keep several active at the same time. Generally speaking in my experience it is unwise to run two AV apps at the same time they just don't like to play nice, teh Spyware apps are not as bad but can still cause problems. I run different apps on various systems I own and have found the best approch has been to stick to one of each A/V and Spyware, then once a month or every 6 weeks or so I will run a scan with another just to double check. The main issue I find is when you keep Real Time Protection running for more than one A/V or Spyware application it can just get messy.

One other little trick I use is Trend Micro's Housecall, it is an Online scanner only no realtime, but it is updated in realtime so it can help to run it once in awhile to double check your other precautions. If you are interested in checking it out just google Housecall you will get loads of hits.
