Help, FS9 crashes

Now that I have fine tuned my installation of FS9 and have got it running as good as it has ever been, it suddenly crashes.

It starts up OK and let me choose a flight, saved or a new one then, when the flight is loading, the progress bar gets to about 50% and bam, a CTD.

I tried deleting the default flight and created another as this cured a similar problem some time ago, but mow I get the message that the selected flight is missing or corrupt ans will now try to load the default flight, but still gets to 50% before the CTD.

I did reload a scenery that has somehow stopped working and since deleted it and have tried to launch FS9 with no success.

Anyone any ideas as to what to look for? All help greatly appreciated.

Richard.

It's OK, or at least I think it is. I have got the thing working again.

This getting old isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when you start to suffer from amnesia.

Now what was I talking about? Oh yes, I forgot I had altered the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL entry in an attempt to improve the terrain. As I don't know what the terrain setting for my installation of terrian mesh, I experimented. 21 left me with canyons where there ought to be slight dips, 19 was OK(ish),but 17 caused the problem. I am assuming the correct entry for my terrain mesh is 19.

You got it right.

19 is the default value
20 is suggested for most of the improved mesh and
21 is even more defined, but does eat some resources (for some) and makes oddities to be even more odd.

I pretty much run with the 20 value, but on occasion will return to 19 for some older sceneries.
