Help - installation setup not behaving

Sorry 'bout this. Looked in the help/FAQ portion on the main site and did not find a solution to my problem. Here it is:

I have limited space on many of my hard drives and need to install OFFBHAH onto my M: drive. However, it won't let me. I have CFS3 installed on my G: drive and previously, OFF Phase 2 on my F: drive. OFFBHAH wants to install to my F: where I no longer have enough space.

I am guessing it thinks OFFP2 is still on my F: drive (I get an "Upgrading existing installation" during the setup process). Perhaps I missed some key files or whatnot in the "application data" of my computer when I removed Phase2, but there certainly isn't anything left of OFFP2 on my F: (incidently, this shouldn't be a problem anyway as the FAQ says the install program will take care of removing Phase 2 if necessary). I tried moving CFS3 over to M: as well to see if that would help, it did not.

Anything I can do to make OFFBHAH install to M: instead of F:(where I just don't have the room) ? What am I missing here?

Thanks for any assistance.

You are the second person reporting a problem trying to install BHAH on a lower (or is that higher)? drive letter. One guy wanted to install on H: but got an error message. I told him to try C: D, E, or F, but never heard back from him, so I don't know if my advice worked.

Sorry, I don't have any better advice if you don't have enough room on your F: drive. Do you have Partition Magic or some other utility program to make changes to the logical drives on your disks? Or, can you free up any space on your F: drive?

Unfortunately, no. The problem I am seeing now is that the setup program BHAH uses does not even allow choosing anywhere on my 2nd physical hard drive as an option. This is going to create quite a problem for me.
:faint:
Hope somebody has a solution.:help:

Last post before bed, but I have a funky idea. Are your DVD or CD drives designated with a lower letter than your M drive? In other words, DVD = D: or E:, i.e. before your M: drive?

What if CFS3 assumes that your DVD or CD drives are the last drives on your system? Maybe it thinks that it can't access M: because M: comes after the "last" accessible drive on your computer?

If so, go into Administrative Tools/Computer Management and switch the drive letters of your DVD drive and your hard drive so that the hard drive is named any available letter D: through L: and your DVD is named M: Then, try again to install BHAH. If changing the drive letter of your hard drive causes any problems, you can always change it back to M: after installing OFF. See if BHAH works then.

Worth trying? :engel016:

Thanks for the ideas, James...still no joy, unfortunately. I believe it is a quirk in the installer. Wonder if there is anyway to manually install the game or to force the instalation????? Still looking for ideas as I really want to play.

did you remove all the references to OFF and OBD software in your regitry?

cleaning those out will probably help

Ah dam...got F: completely empty now but still can't install the game. I get a message stating," You must enter a full path with drive letter..."

Can't avoid this message no matter what I do...frustrating!

Gottcha!!!! Issue solved. Turned out to be related to the registry. Thought I had removed all references to Phase 2. Turned out there were entries to the old OFF Manager in the registry that was causing the problem. Removed them and it seems to be installing fine now. :woot:

Same problem as Redwolf..

I'm trying to install BHAH over a patched (3.0) and working Phase 2. Both it and CFS3 are installed on my "E" drive.

I click "full install" and it goes to the "Select Start Menu Folder" and it points to "over flanders fields". No matter what I choose, I get the same error as Redwolf got: "You must enter a full path with drive letter; For example: C:\APP or a UNC path in the form:\\server\share.

When I type in a drive letter as instructed, it tells me that :, \, etc are not allowed in the line. I'm dead in the water, and pulling my hair out (what's left of it anyway) for two days now. Can anyone PLEASE help or offer a suggestion???:help:
Thanks very much!!

Remove Phase 2 - it is not recommended to install over it anyway. Then use regedit (start, run, type "regedit") to remove all references in the registry to OFF Phase 2 including the old OFF Manager (a simple search of the folder name you had PHase2 installed in with regedit should pull up all the related registry entries). The program is trying to install it where Phase2 is, but it is not inputing the drive letter correctly. Completely removing P2 and all registry entries related to it should solve your problem, as it did me.

The installation program should ask for a destination before the full or custom or partial installation option screen comes up. If it does not, you will get the same error over and over.

Yup. RedWolf is correct. You will have to manually remove P2 before installing P3.

Make sure to get the registry entires in ..

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OBD Software\Over Flanders Fields

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\OFFManager

Success...kind of

Thanks very much to Redwolf and Rex...cleaning the registry did the trick!!!:applause: Unfortunately, when I click to choose a squadron I get the message: Map File error and it tells me to try re-installing. So I'll do that.

Thanks again!!

Bruno

Update: Re-installed and everything is working great...thanks, guys!!!
