My grandson Adam has a thing for Ace Combat aircraft. He has always flown Itosan's version everytime he has stayed the weekend with us. I found a newer version of the XO-2 at Flightsim. However, It thinks it should be a plow. What do I tweek here?

Just a quick suggestion... If you aren't a wiz at airfiles, like me... try substituting the airfile from another jet in your library, like an F-15 or an Su27... and go from there. You can also make adjustments in the aircraft config.

I just downloaded the newer version and took it through a quick flight with a landing speed around 176kts on TD and even with hard braking I was unable to get it to snowplow (hit the "Y" key, that'll pop it back up). I did notice when I first loaded it that it was hopping a bit at first, but settled down within a few seconds. . . .also, there was a rapid porpoising effect at around 550 kts, which, for an airplane capable of much higher speeds is something that requires some tweaking as well. The bouncing could be corrected with a little tweaking of the contact points, the porpoising effect is out of my expertise.

My personal opinion is that Ito Sans version is far better visually and I don't remember any of the problems I noticed with this one in his version. The only saving grace to the recent model would be the VC, I think the one in Ito's version was a VC in name only, lol. But even this newer models VC isn't much and the screens don't even match up with the shadow areas behind them, that would have to be corrected as well (FSPanel Studio for that).

Update!

Ok, I just reinstalled Ito's Wyvern (actually I just moved the aircraft folder back where it belongs from the "Reserve" folder I moved it to).

First, the VC is actually quite nice by Ito standards and much better than the newer design. I'm going to make some adjustments and additions to it, but basically it's a keeper. Flight Dynamics was never a strong point with Ito's work, but it was always accepted because his models are beautiful to look at and there are many talented folks here that could rework the numbers to make it better. Compared to the new version of the Wyvern, Ito's again wins out. Even though it may not be 100% spot on, the acceleration, climb rate and stability (no porpoising) were at least believable. Max speed at 10000 was1450kts which is very close to the supposed specs of this fictional aircraft.

Control surfaces animation was different. . .Ito's wings do not "sweep" like this recent versions (ala F-14 Tomcat) and the stabilators do not react to flap settings like they do in the new version. Ito's Wyvern has the normal speed brake configuration above the engine cowlings and conventional flaps, although the wingtips do fold on the ground, it has a drag chute (which I didn't try) and the weapons bays are animated and loaded.

Finally, after having flown the "New Version" first and then loading Ito's, my initial reaction as it appeared in the sim was "Wow". Ito's models are works of art and this X0-2 Wyvern is no exception. . .there is no comparison.

Finally. . .here's one other thing that Ito's aircraft can boast that the new version can't. . . .a "Blue Angels" livery, lol.

I miss Ito's contributions. They were varied and interesting a/c he chose to model. And his turnaround was astonishing. I wish him well.

Thanks for the input. I do hope Itosan is doing well.
Hey Underdog, I messed up a bit on the VC for Ito's XO-2, it's actually just a bitmap, there are no working gauges on it at all. I didn't really notice that till I went into FSPanel Studio to tweak it a bit and discovered there was no VC section at all. . .too bad. Even with that tho, I still see his as much better than the new one I tried.

i'd have to agree there, being an ace combat nut myself (responsible for solo wing Pixy & Cipher paints on IRIS F-15), even have a notepad full of my plans to start a virtual org based on it, and even started modelling a superweapon in FSDS, needless to say was a bugger to texture....:icon_lol:

I wish someone would do the "Morgan" From Ace Combat Zero. I'm planning on putting the XO-2 and the Falken from AC5 into Area 51. The Morgan might be right but Lionheart's alley with some of his past Sci-fi work.

what about the Arkbird, or Aigaion?
