Help please, I am desperate!

I desperate for some help with my settings, I am currently experiencing between 5 and 10fps.

My system consists of AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor, 2Gb Ram and Nvidia 7900 GTX graphics.

All I have done so far is adjust the standard FS9 settings but this has not shown any improvement.

I do like to run AI but to make up for that I tend not to run much in the way of weather.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

your GFX card updated with the latest drivers? and are you killing processes? you could also toy with the sliders and find which are causing the lousy performance...

Have you added anything to FS2004, such as mesh, scenery, weather packages, environmental packages...some of those things can cause frame rate issues from time to time. As Smoothie asked, do you have a lot of processes running in the back ground (anti-virus, chat thingies, AOL). Have you done a sweep for viruses/trojans/spyware lately? Nasties like that can slow your system down. Is your Windows fully updated. Have you cleaned your system out physically...turned it off, unplugged it, opened it up and cleaned dust and cobwebs out of it....heat can really bog a system down, and dust will cause your system to run hotter.

There are so many variables to look at when trying to figure out why your sim is yielding low frame rates.

Thanks Smoothie and Obio,

I spent some time last week virus scanning and cleaning my fans and the like, also I did recently add an fsgenesis package but that is all, anyway I have between 15 and 19fps now (I lock them at 20 anyway) so I am nearly there.

If I remember I saw a posting recently about tweaking the fs9 config file may be that will help as well if I can find it.

I appreciate your help, panic over for now anyway.

Thanks

I used to have the tweak saved, but it should still be here. It's worth the bit of trouble it takes to learn to tweak it, though. :ernae:

Try www.alacritypc.com

your pc is good enough you shouldn't have frame issues. Make sure all drivers are current. Then maybe reinstall windows and fs9.

You can try this: (mostly from NickN at flight1)
[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT.0] (whatever yours is)

Mode=1280x1024x32
TableFog=1
TriLinear=1
AntiAlias=0
[DISPLAY]
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=25
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=200
TextureMaxLoad=10
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.0
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.0
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.5
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=90.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4
[SCENERY]
IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5
DYNAMIC_SCENERY=1
DYN_SCN_DENSITY=5
DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=0
SUNGLARE=0
LENSFLARE=0

Also you can get FSUIPC. I got it mainly to set visability ranges to help fps but there are other good settings as well. 3000 (30 miles) in clear down to 1000 in rain. Also mainly from NickN

Winds Tab
Smooth wind changes
5
0
0
Uncheck everything else in Winds

Visability Tab
3000 2500 2000 1000
Uncheck everything below
Stop visibility going below is @ 0
Smoothing Options
Smooth Visibility
10% every 2 sec
But after weather is cleared, delay smoothing =0
Smooth on filtered=unchecked
Check Set Graduated Visibility
6000
25000
9000

Clouds Tab
Check Add light cirrus layer
Everything else unchecked

Miscellaneous Tab
Checks in these boxes only
Enable V/S Sign
Control Spike Elimination – all three
Fix Control Acceleration
Additonal facilities – first 5 boxes
Battery set to 0
Check smooth pressure changes
5
40
Flight – drop down box

FSUIPC will integrate into the weather system and will not allow FS9 to pile on layers of clouds which can't be seen anyway. Weather will usually be set to user defined weather. FSUIPC has control of the cloud layers and will optimize whatever weather scenario is chosen.

Thanks for all your help guy's, I am getting much better frame rates now, I am dreading having to re-install windows or fs9 again (I did fs9 again recently).

I appreciate everyones help.

All the best
