Help, what is this?

Need help in identifying what happened here. When I click on "C" drive all these photo bumps show up like 8000 of them. This is on my new Jetline system. First glance they look to be fsx related. So far I have installed only about 10 addon's including utility's. Could be Orbx global perhaps. Anyhow, best way to deal with this or is this normal? Did not have this on my last machine. Fsx runs fine as well.

Thanks
Jim

Good thing I'm near-sighted to read the image!

Those are the primary texture/autogen files for FSX. They normally are to be found in the \Scenery\World\texture folder.

Someone mess up an install???

Did you by any chance install FTX Global base recently? If in the question about the folder to create the texture backup, you defined your FSX folder then all your FSX terrain textures were copied there. The same could happen if you installed GEX in a similar manner.

FTX global was one of the installs.. auto install. So best way to resolve these missed placed files? should I uninstall ftx global.

Thanks for your comments

Jim

Those are backups of your originals which get written over when you installed FTX Global.

No need to uninstall anything. Just create a folder for those, name it backup or something of that you will remember and place the files inside. Once the files are in the folder, move the folder to a location of your choice. That will clean up your C:drive.

It's a good rule of thumb to double check your steps when installing the scenery and follow the recommended sequence. Make sure you read all the interim menus. Always update your ORBX libraries each time you install a new one too.

Very good, thanks for clearing this up. Will make backup folder and place them within.

This begs the question though as to why this ever happened to begin with. No installer should ever allow files to be written to the root folder of any drive... :dizzy:

FTX Global asks during the installation where the backup should be stored. I just don't remember if it proposes a location or not.

Cheers,

Johan

As I am loading this machine up with addons, I am keeping a notebook on my install of fsx. Going back to FSX global install I have a note showing that I backed up default textures to C drive so it was I who placed them there. The only question left is why it did not make a folder and place them within. As said above, I will try to pay closer attention to the tick boxes that show up along the install process.

Ah, I see. If you tell it to install to C:\ then files will be placed in the root folder.

If you type instead C:\MyStuff the folder "MyStuff" will be created, and the files placed in that new folder.
